Good talk. There's a lot of (over)thinking of this at the moment. Zenodo just works. (Until it doesn't when we and our bots ruin that as well.) Collaborate on GitHub and refer to zenodo.

Among the many ironies of this report, I was particularly shocked that Joe Henrich - who coined the "WEIRD" acronym -was one of its 10 (all US-based) authors, making sweeping unsupported generalisations from very limited, "WEIRD" data
This over-generalisation from specific US anthropology examples is particularly shocking to me given that the sole anthropologist to coauthor the report is Joseph Henrich (who I generally greatly respect as a scholar). Henrich’s most influential academic research – cited in over 20,000 other academic research articles – demonstrates that much research on participants from the US and other societies he dubs “WEIRD”– “Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, and Democratic” – does not generalise to other contexts (Henrich et al., 2010). So it’s particularly ironic that Henrich of all people would coauthor such a sweeping “Report on the State of Scholarship in the Humanities and the Humanistic Social Sciences” based on very limited, almost exclusively “WEIRD” data.

Great post from Eiko on conferences, I agree with all of it. And this progression over time on the motivation for attending conferences seems to be universally shared: Phase 1: go for content Phase 2: go for presenting Phase 3: go for the people (maybe then Phase 4: don't go at all)

I have managed to abstract the template for replies to critiques.
A reply to critique

In this reply to the recent critique of our article, we: mischaracterize the critique; mischaracterize our own original claims; respond only to the peripheral arguments while remaining silent about the critique’s most devastating points; claim that the issues raised do not affect our core conclusions, regardless of whether this is the case or not; radically change the implied generality of our original claims; commit ad hominem while accusing others of it; and leverage the fact that we are likely to have the last word to generally muddy the waters.
