If it doesn't get inside you, it can't make you sick. N95 respirators and air cleaning stop the aerosols that plague, COVID, etc transmit in. If you need advice on protecting yourself, talk to someone #Covid / #longCOVID aware. Even if you think we're nuts, we're pretty 🤬 good at this by now.

The argument against AI should always start with the THEFT of creative labor the technology was built on. The intent was CRIMINAL. CEOs should be facing charges, not class action lawsuits. The devastation these companies continue to inflict on creative communities demands accountability.

So we know AI helped a negligible number of students. But how many did it harm? I've crunched the raw data provided by the lead researcher, and what I've found is that ~9,500 students using AI studied less than even the *least* studious, non-AI using student. This should shock the conscience.

Axios writer: I melted my brain with AI. Not only can I no longer read, but I don't even understand the purpose of reading anymore. Here's how you can also do this. www.axios.com/2026/08/11/r...
Axios: AI has become my reading buddy as I've plowed through my summer book list, helping me keep track of plots and characters, unpack themes, and make sense of wordy, old prose.

Why it matters: The way many of us actually read books — a few pages before bed, a chapter at the beach, another on a plane — makes it easy to lose the thread. AI can help you pick it back up without starting over.
📖 I really got into using AI while reading James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans." The text was far too dense for casual vacation reading. My first prompt asked:

"I'd like a guide as I read The Last of the Mohicans who can help me understand what I've read and where the story is, without giving spoilers or getting ahead of my progress. Can you do this, chapter by chapter?"
The robot agreed: "Cooper's sentences are long and his diction is archaic."

Seyfert's Sextet from Hubble & Chandra - From Judy Schmidt (geckzilla.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/JvapTn
Here is the Sextet once again, now with indigo and magenta colors indicating x-ray emission. My favorite thing about this is that the second brightest x-ray source is a tiny background galaxy with an active nucleus. The first brightest source is in the blue galaxy near the bottom. Most of them have some kind of x-ray emission. The one at the upper right seems left out, though.

The plain Hubble version is here:

Chandra data are from Observation ID 11261

Violet/Magenta overlay: Chandra ACIS-S .2-7 keV
Red: WFPC2 F814W
Green: WFPC2 F555W
Blue: WFPC2 F439W+F336W

North is NOT up. It is 10.15° counter-clockwise from up.

Close up #photography #birds
Close up of a cormorant's spread wing in which can be seen that the feathers are edged in black but change to a bronze colour towards the centres and the whole shines as if oiled. A cormorant apparently drying its wings is a common sight along the Thames. However there is more behind this wings spread posture than is often thought. It was once commonly believed that cormorant feathers get wet because these birds are deficient in producing a water resistant oil from the preen gland. In fact research has shown that it is the microscopic structure of the feathers themselves which makes the birds feathers ‘wettable’. Rather than being a negative thing, this helps reduce the cormorant’s buoyancy, so they can dive deeper more easily when hunting for fish.

An original digital illustration by Loadofolbobbins of an Andean Cock-of-the-rock perching on a branch. A medium size bird which is facing away from the viewer and off facing the right hand side. It's tail feathers and wings are a deep dark blue black which is in stark contrast to the vibrant orange of it's head and body feathers. One particular striking feature is it's circular crest on top of it's head and also in the same vibrant orange colour. The background of the illustration is a light blue inky wash with splashes against white.
