Also had this same triple whammy, having had flu/covid together prior w/ only mild fatigue/aches. Turns out shingles vax was the sucker punch, got it solo on the next dose & reaction was similar. All that said, it is STILL completely worth it to avoid the absolute misery of having shingles.

for Alex Pretti
For Alex Pretti

Because his last words were for a woman;
because he asked,
are you okay, are you okay;
because he had learned to say it
by standing each night beside the dying;
because sometimes he held their hands;
because he had lived only as long
as the scent of childhood in an album;
because he was a son;
because he sang once;
because of all of it,
because of all of it,
because of all of it,
tell it, tell the story:
a breath has left;
a country is dying;
and a man laid his face
on its pavement today
as though he were listening
to a patient's heart—
even then, even at the ending—
to do what he was there to do: heal.

Powerful statement from the Oregon Nurses Association on the killing of Renee Good.
ONA
Curing for Cregot
Oregon Nurses Association
5h •
As frontline healthcare workers, we are entrusted with a fundamental responsibility: to preserve life, reduce harm, and provide care with dignity-without exception. The killing of Renee Nicole Good by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis is a devastating violation of those principles and a stark example of the unchecked harm ICE continues to inflict on our communities. Our hearts go out to the victim and her family, and we extend our deepest sympathies during this profound moment of loss.
The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) unequivocally condemns this senseless act of violence and demands full transparency from the Department of Homeland Security, including a thorough, independent investigation. We call for an immediate end to ICE's operations in our communities and for meaningful oversight of an agency that has repeatedly demonstrated it cannot be trusted to police itself.
The videos emerging from Minneapolis are chilling.
When state violence occurs, it is the nurses and other frontline caregivers who are called to respond to stop the bleeding, manage the trauma, and comfort families. ICE, meanwhile, operates with extraordinary power and little accountability-bringing lethal force into communities in Oregon and across the country, while evading the transparency and consequences required of other agencies or institutions.This killing did not happen in a vacuum. ICE's routine use of intimidation and force creates widespread fear that keeps immigrant communities from seeking medical care, delays treatment until conditions become life-threatening, and causes lasting psychological trauma. That fear directly interferes with frontline healthcare workers' ability to carry out our professional, ethical, and legal responsibilities. A system that drives patients into hiding is not protecting public safety—it is actively endangering lives.
As frontline healthcare workers, we see the consequences of these actions every day, and this killing only deepens the harm. ICE's tactics have pushed immigrant communities into crisis—a reality fundamentally at odds with our fundamental commitments as frontline caregivers. Immigrants are vital members of our state and our healthcare system, and they deserve the same rights and protections as everyone else. ONA stands in solidarity with immigrant communities and communities of color who are directly or indirectly harmed by ICE's actions.
We cannot fulfill our duty to care for patients while
ICE continues to operate as an unaccountable force that threatens the very communities we are sworn to protect and serve.ONA

This is a superb idea. I bet Sotomayor (or KBJ or Kagan) would love to do the honors on the steps out front. Let them try to say a SCOTUS isn’t authorized to swear someone in. We all know she won the election, so Mikey’s got no argument that doesn’t look ridiculous. It’s time to push the issue.

A student on TikTok has been documenting her journey with a professor who “wrote” the anatomy textbook and it’s all a bunch of AI hallucinations. She’s saying that, understandably, the students are doing super poorly! Behold what we’re teaching the healthcare professionals of tomorrow:
A diagram of the bones and (some) deep muscles of the hand and forearm. AI says that we only have four digits. It’s also identified a tendon as the median nerve, another tendon as the ulnar nerve, among other issues. An AI generated diagram of the muscles of the neck. It hallucinated the “ennocleidomasid” muscle, and the “anterior scalpalin muscle”.An AI generated diagram of the muscles of the lateral thigh. It says that the gluteus Maximus (the big juicy butt muscle) is on the anterior side. It also points to the quadriceps muscle and says “attattment”. It also says that the same structure is the tibia AND the deep fascia of the leg. An AI generated diagram of the bones of the hand and forearm. This time AI says we have 6 digits. It also says that the radius is the ulnar artery. Among other many issues.

It's true there is nothing like Mount Hood gypsum, but for me, I gotta go with Hardware Hank's rosemary-infused wallboards. Best drywall around. Problem is that you can only get it at the framers market at Elizabeth Caruthers Park on Thursday afternoons.

This is my concern too. Trying to weigh my options: -wait for novavax -wait for my pcp to write Rx -wait for my state to waive the Rx barrier Vs. -head across state line, get whatever shot I can get and pay myself b4 it’s too late -fight insurance reimbursement later This sucks. We can do better.

I have asked my PCP for a prescription, and have been told that they aren’t writing them right now as they are waiting on further guidance. Going across the state line to Wa means I have to pay out of pocket for something that should be covered. This is a ridiculous mess.
