I'll to come right out and say it: statistical extrapolation is *fine*. One of the most useful ways to understand the present and anticipate the future is measuring the things that happened in the past, find the correlations among them, and extrapolate likely future outcomes from those correlations.

🧵 of excerpts from my latest essay “On Democrats Who Cave in Response to Anti-Trans Attack Ads.” it makes several points I haven't seen others making. here's a main one: many cis reactions reveal they don't actually view trans ppl as part of their coalition... juliaserano.medium.com/on-democrats...
screenshot from linked-to essay that reads:
In my book Excluded — which examines the recurring problem of how marginalized groups are often excluded from movements that they have a stake in — I discuss (on p.57) how the word “divisive” is a red flag for me. To paraphrase that passage: When trans people critique trans-exclusion within our own communities and coalitions, we are often called “divisive” for doing so. In contrast, I have never once heard anyone use the word “divisive” to describe cis people who promote or tacitly support trans-exclusion (in this case, Talarico, Turek, et al.). The fact that acts that marginalize trans people are not typically described as being “divisive” implies that there is a presumed and unspoken “one-ness” that exists in people’s minds that implicitly precludes trans people.
I’d argue that the central issue here isn’t what candidate X says about trans athletes or trans healthcare (although that is certainly important), or what trans person Y says in response. Rather, it’s that many cisgender Democrats will by default view Y as divisive and X as not. And by doing so, they are essentially communicating (whether they realize it or not) that trans people are not really a part of the Democratic coalition in their eyes: We are either votes to be taken for granted or else “dead weight” that the party should drop.

Instead, others argue "just vote, it will get better later". Which hasn't always happened. Research has shown that tolerating bigotry in political climates just leads to the further growth of bigotry, not a later decrease. It's very possible that anti trans rhetoric becomes more normalized this way.

However I felt the need to post this because what I unfortunately do see in the posts here on bluesky is just an overwhelmingly lack of empathy towards the case trans people are trying to make here: that shit is *really* bad, especially for them.

Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
No worries, I get it. And yeah I understand your point with Talarico, and I want to emphasize I really do understand that in the current political atmosphere, it can feel baffling that anyone worth their sanity would insinuate voting rep would be better than voting dem.
110
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I'm not sure your example holds up (attacking abortion =/= attacking one's existence) but unless you're trans, I don't think we are in the position to say 'that's bullshit'. We have not lived their lives. We can't know.
110
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
I still don't think it's BS. And you are supporting my point - I am saying that the choice is not easily made. My argument would then also be that it's not easy for cis women to have to choose between two candidates that would strip their rights to birth control; but easier for men to ignore that.
100
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I feel like this response lacks some empathy, trying to trick the other into a gotcha. I get that you still want to vote dem, but I can also wholeheartedly understand trans people being very reluctant to vote dem or at all. It all changes once the Dems are talking about *you* specifically.
020
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
No maybe not exactly. But I guarantee you that if you were trans, it really wouldn't be as an easy decision to you, it wouldn't be as black and white as you put it. For a cis person, it's easier to ignore the anti trans rhetoric. If the democrat were talking about YOU, it wouldn't be an easy vote.

I think the movie would have been much stronger, more believable and a much better representation of the community he wanted to represent if he didn't make the activist's reasoning so flat and hollow. It's almost as if he needed a shortcut to make his message more believable. 6/6

As another reviewer (ahk-37714) on IMDB put it well: "...was he trying to make black people look worse [or] better? To me it only represented what Americans think of the black community." I feel like he wanted to do neither, but failed and ended up doing the former. 5/6

I first thought Buggin wanted to boycott Sal's b/c of Pino's treatment of Da Mayor. But no, it all seems so irrepresentative of the struggle black people face, and even adding the "you shouldn't be so violent" message at the end... Almost as if the police brutality at the end was their own fault 4/6
110
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I think the message would be supported WAY better if you gave the 'activist' characters (i.e. Raheem, Smiley, Buggin Out) actual reasons to protest except for the hollow "I want black people on this wall just because I come here." reason. If Spike Lee thinks that's what activism is about... Oof. 3/6

I get that they want to do this whole _violence begets violence_, _an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind_ message, but I feel like it happens on a false premise. People don't behave the way they do as in this movie. It really painted black people as some angry mob without reason. 2/6

If anyone else tried this game and felt the same or otherwise, let me know and why. There are also probably some terms for this type of narrative apart from just 'colonial' that I can't think of in the moment. Curious about other people's thoughts on this. #TheEternalLifeofGoldman #Gaming #games
000
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
So I wonder if the story will actually address this colonial dynamic, and explore it on a less superficial level. Or in any other way critique who we are now considering to be the 'hero'. Perhaps that's what they had planned, and I am judging to early. 6/7
A screenshot from the game "The Eternal Life of Goldman" that shows the in-game map, currently focus on the location "Hanoch's End". There are multiple islands, each looking fantastical and mythical in nature. The description of the current location says "The secluded ranch of Hanoch, a big fellow who is something of a loner. Only Hanoch can get you to the Temple of Asmodeus."

Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Goldman so far kind of seems like an asshole (or he was poorly written). He barely responds with any emotion when that would be appropriate, and repeatedly comes across as hurried or annoyed to me. It doesn't seem like he cares about the people that live here, though he is obviously a visitor. 5/7
A screenshot from the game "The Eternal Life of Goldman". The Hero, Goldman, seems to be running across a a sleigh. The sleigh is being pulled by white beasts, and there is someone at the head, steering the sleigh. There are fireflies pretty much everywhere.
100
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
I don't think I need to go into why it's problematic. The one thing that caught my interest in this aspect is that there is an NPC that is clearly suspicous of Goldman, and mocks him for being considered the "saviour". 4/7
100
Kumenaye @supertedy.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
People even repeatedly regard you as their "saviour". In addition, during the game you are collecting gold and treasure from this unknown land, taking it for your own or using it to generate wealth by selling it back to the inhabitants - a narrative and image straight from colonial times. 3/7
A screenshot from the game "The Eternal Life of Goldman" He is running across what seems to be a factory, there is a giant, dead elephant in the background.

Product page says that they "Far from mindlessly [rely] on cliché and formula". Though the setting so far is as follows: Goldman, a white man, is "the chosen one" called upon to save the indigenous inhabitants (depicted in various colourful manners) of this apparently savage world. 2/7
A screenshot from the game "The Eternal Life of Goldman". It shows a village being burned, and the hero, Goldman, is pulling a cart that containt an imprisoned monster. He is pulling it so he can put it in range to jump on another ledge.

Just played a portion of the demo of The Eternal Life of Goldman. So far it looks and plays absolutely fantastic, talking about it's art in anyway is doing it a disservice. One must play it for themselves. I do worry about something regarding it's setting. It has a weird, colonial dynamic to it. 1/7
