Revealed: the ‘black box’ wastewater trade that rakes in millions for UK utility companies
Exclusive: Firms made more than £340m last year from processing industrial and commercial wastewater at sewage works that are unable to remove many chemical pollutants Water companies in the UK made more than £340m in revenue last year by pouring billions of litres of industrial and commercial wastewater into sewage treatment works that experts say are not designed to remove most chemicals, leaving pollutants to pass into rivers, seas and farmland. Water companies are required by law to take industrial wastewater and issue permits called “trade-effluent consents” that allow businesses to send it to sewage works, though water companies can refuse applications. I've looked at their policy release and I cannot see how they would make this work. It's much more complicated than the Key government scheme, which only kicked in if a jobseeker declined to apply for a job which required pre-employment testing, or if such a test was failed.

If you really want to get "more people off welfare and into work", consider not tanking the economy. That typically works better than performative cruelty.
The party also promised:
to provide "intensive, work-focused support" for 30,000 jobseekers who have been on Jobseeker for more than a year, with more funding for employment programmes that support young people into work.
lowering the rate of payment for those who had been on the benefit for two of the previous three years, from 1 April 2028. There would be a smaller reduction for households with dependent children.
those who repeatedly leave employment without good and sufficient reason would face a 26-week non-entitlement period, up from 13 weeks.
from 1 April 2028, the minimum residence period to qualify for main benefits will increase from two years to five years.
Upston said the party was focused on "getting more people off welfare and into work".

Anyway. While 95% of the country was having a good faith debate about a hard issue on where to draw the line, 5% were mourning their loss of capacity to act abusively. Bob McCoskrie and, apparently, Winston Peters are speaking for that 5%. And they want to impose their views on everyone else. No.

Unlike the Chrises, Davidson happy to trash-talk billionaires

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson has been on a community walkabout in South Auckland this morning to encourage people to enrol to vote.

Quizzed by reporters on what the Greens would push for in coalition negotiations, Davidson said the Greens wanted "all of the ministerial portfolios".

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has stated that one of non-negotiables is that the finance portfolio goes to his MP Barbara Edmonds. But Davidson said no politician gets to rule things in or out in concrete.

"[Green co-leader Chloe Swarbrick] deserves it. She blimmin' well deserves it," Davidson said.

"Give us the mandate, voters. If voters want an economy that works for all of us and not just the billionaires, give us the mandate and hell yes, we'll push for it."

Both Hipkins and National leader Christopher Luxon equivocated in last night's TVNZ leaders debate when asked whether it was immoral to be a billionaire.

Davidson showed no such compunction, declaring that yes, it was immoral, and that they should pay more in tax: "They will still be filthy rich, even if they pay their fair share."
