Found a fake record on Ancestry (AI strikes again?). It's based on an 1855 Scottish death register entry, but the "deceased" is actually one of the listed living children, and there seems to be a 'death record' for everyone mentioned on the original 😡 #genealogy #ScottishGenealogy #GenHour

In withering fairness to many of our modern ill-fitting technology pushers, they have an absolutely garbage knowledge of history, as it wasn't a subject they ever put any effort into, so there was nothing to forget, and no lessons learned to avoid. It's why crypto sped run scams from the 1800s.

This title if the comic is ‘Googling Stuff…’
The comic shows two columns: on the left is “Then” showing search results with one thing listed as “the thing you want”

On the right column is ‘Now’ - also showing search results but in this case it’s a whole bunch of stuff you don’t need:

Tonight, the Cold Moon rises. ❄️ Known too as the Long Night Moon or The Moon Before Yule, it rises during the darkest nights of the year, heralding the onset of winter’s chill. Its glow has guided ancient Yule traditions and marked the turning of the seasons. Moonrise: 15:09*
A luminous full moon rises high above the silhouette of bare winter trees, casting a serene glow over the landscape. The pale orb dominates the dusky sky, its craters and markings softly visible, radiating an ethereal light. Known as December's "Cold Moon," it marks the arrival of winter’s chill, illuminating the frost-bitten evenings with its quiet brilliance.

First thing to check when you're looking at the service record of a man who served in the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars... Was he awarded an additional two years' service towards his pension? In other words, did he serve at Waterloo? In this case, I'm delighted to say, the answer is 'yes'!

Before and after... Great to see @thenmct.bsky.social here - the National Manuscripts Conservation Trust provided us with crucial funding to pay for conservation work on the archives of the National Union of Mineworkers. The huge NUM collection is now conserved & in the process of being catalogued.
Two photos side by side. The one on the left shows wooden shelves in a (non-archival) outstore filled with large ledgers, some have visible white mould on them. The one on the right shows acid-free cardboard boxes on shelves in an archival store - the boxes contain the dried and de-moulded volumes after they received conservation treatment to stabilise them and make them safe to view.
