Dream big.
Whit type on orange

I dream that one day drivers will have the same patience for me crossing the street that they do waiting for a parking spot 10 feet closer to the mall entrance.

My criticism was of the content of the speech and the shout out to one of our Irish government’s worst decisions. Of course Scotland should make its own decisions, but molly-coddling drivers in the belief that drivers = people would not be a good one.

Not keen on the pro-fossil fuelled fandom. And in Ireland our government has been throwing money at drivers while penalising public transport users. I’m with you on Scottish nationhood and self-determination but build a sustainable nation, think radically and design something better.

Criminal organisation warns that it’s just months away from committing crimes. Your regular reminder that anthropic’s software is anthropic’s, not a legal or moral entity itself. Anthropic’s software’s crimes are anthropic’s crimes.

Thoughts on Raphaël Glucksmann ? He needs to pick up a few points on Mélenchon to make the second round but if the softer left row in behind him he may have a better shot than Édouard Philippe, who probably needs to dent Le Pen’s current first round vote to have any chance. Maybe wishful thinking.

www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm... Ciarán Cannon nails it in this article. Canney is the worst road safety minister we’ve ever had. He still uses “accidents” in interviews (including when responding to the recent appalling, deliberate wrong-way motorway collision).

Ciarán Cannon: No, Seán Canney, 'everybody' is not responsible for road deaths
As road deaths rise, the Government dropped planned reforms of the RSA and increased public transport fares — and now the minister seems to be disavowing political responsibility, writes Ciarán Cannon

This 100%. Seán Canney and the government are more #ZeroVision than #VisionZero. Sadly the death toll has increased by again today - and @iristimes.com doesn’t mention a driver in the headline or even the article. « Everybody’s responsibility » ends up as nobody’s fault.

This time of course it’s « l’escroc et la fasco » neatly combined in one person. In 2002 people went to the polls literally with pegs on their noses and wearing gloves to signal how appalled they were at their options, and 80% roundly rejected Le Pen. We can’t be complacent. 2/2

I sense you’re more optimistic than Olivier Morel seemed in the episode? Mélenchon in the second round would be as toxic as Le Pen and Le Pen wins that battle. We’re a long way from 2002 and « mieux l’escroc que le fasco » We need someone to emerge from the primary and catch the imagination. 1/2

I do wonder whether this is partly concern at their own legal liability. When we hear about « rogue agents » we should be talking about a company’s malfunctioning software for which that company is responsible. Pretending the malfunctioning software is conscious is a deflection from that.

From over here in Europe I can tell you that I’ve had it with car-brained framing of the debate: always the vehicle never the driver (or the planner). Walkers wheelers and cyclists exhorted to dress like Xmas trees, while drivers check their phones. Not too keen on pre-emptive victimhood either.

Mélenchon is the wild card this time around, along with the unfortunate detoxification of the Le Pen brand. As for Bardella’s « youthful indiscretions » Charlottesville and Farage suggest little long term impact: they just didn’t get the memo about having always been at war with Islam. 1/2

If you want transport infrastructure suitable for the second half of the twenty first century before the second half of the twenty second you need to do things that are « hard and expensive » and start finding the money and the political will now. « You » is generic here, not just aimed at England.

We need a reporting portal. Too many people seem to regard reporting motor vehicle crime as somehow unsporting but driver crimes kill and these are not « accidents » but a consequence of our failure to address driver behaviour. Design it out where possible, punish where necessary.
