During my keynote at PIDA 2026, I shared the foundations of proximity-based urbanism: polycentric organization, quality of life, balanced services and a city designed around human time.

Having Britain as an applicant would be, schadenfreude aside, a very clear message to political movements that might have been tempted towards leaving the EU and so would be a definite benefit to the EU. Fast tracking accession after that much less so.

A man builds an IED. He sets it off in a busy public street. Shrapnel flies about hitting cars, homes and a child's bedroom. It's a miracle nobody is injured. And Reform MP Sarah Pochin calls his imprisonment "disproportionate" and "two tier justice."
It does raise this point of two-tiered
justice..

Reform's Sarah Pochin believes the
sentence handed to the 64-year-old who
blew up a ULEZ camera was
disproportionate'.

Mandatory driving and parking is built into so many communities. Don’t feel bad about the times you have to choose a car, and don’t take any flak from people who shame you for decisions made two generations ago to stick you in a car-dependent place.

Abandoning the public transport fare increases would cost €80M a year while continuing the excise cuts costs €100M a month. Over a year we are giving motorists 15 times as much as it would cost to scrap the fare increase. @westcorksocdems.bsky.social @hollycairns.bsky.social

Oh ffs. 100 million a month being spent on delaying planned excise rises and we’re getting this shit again? The LUAS was endlessly delayed by the same stupidity, no one would claim today that it wasn’t needed. The likely - and justified - complaint is that there is insufficient capacity.

Absolutely this. The framing is important: « AI agents » are not legal entities and have neither legal personality nor legal responsibility: their owners are responsible for what they do. The language we use frames the discussion. See also: drivers kill / injure people. The cars are the weapon.

AI agents have no legal identity. If OpenAI software was used, from Open AI premises, to hack a website the legal responsibility is with the legal entity controlling it. Let’s stop accepting this « AI ate my homework » narrative. The owners are responsible.

It’s true that this is quite a common practice but more often for a premium service such as the Heathrow Express (15 minutes and a small fortune to get to part of London you don’t want to go to). Make a statement: it’s better to use public transport, so we’ll make it cheaper. No surcharge.

There are great photos where snowy streets demonstrate how little of the space given to drivers they really need. Those wide sweeping corners that make it so dangerous for pedestrians to cross ? Turns out that in snow drivers will stay in the centre and then make a 90 degree turn.

The costs of 2026 - lives, health and financial - stemming both from climate-related events and resource wars result from failure to invest in tackling the root causes 30 years ago. The cuts we make today -in Ireland, in the EU, globally - are sowing the seeds for the whirlwind we’ll reap tomorrow.
