I recently welcomed Susan Juliet Agwang from Uganda for placement. Susan is a Graduate LLM International Human Rights Law and Public Policy - University College Cork, and she was shadowing me for 9 weeks. She was dedicated, hardworking and a fantastic team member. I wish her the very best!

At last Monday’s Council meeting, I supported the motion calling on Govt to act without delay on the burials at Bessborough. That means releasing the unpublished archaeological reports, unsealing the burial records held in the Commission archive, & directing the Attorney General to open an inquest.

At last Monday’s Council meeting, I supported increased funding to tackle the serious problems of damp, mould and cold in council houses. We need the same urgency to fix our existing homes as we have for bringing vacant units back into use. Our tenants deserve much better from us.

Car parks shouldn’t be an afterthought when it comes to climate action. At last Monday’s Council meeting, I asked how we can ensure major car parks like Douglas Court and SuperValu Togher are designed with sustainability in mind including better drainage and solar panels at Black Ash Park & Ride.

The Green Party delivered a 50% fare cut for young people while in Government. Now everyone faces fare hikes while Cork’s public transport infrastructure remains underfunded. No BusConnects Cork. No Luas Cork. Yet €1.4bn is being spent subsidising fossil fuels. Cork deserves better.

At last Monday’s Council meeting I spoke in support of the residents of Knockfree & Knockpogue Avenues. The revised plans saving 12 of the 22 mature trees are a welcome step forward. Active travel and protecting our environment should not be an either/or choice. We can and should do both.

At last Monday’s meeting, I made it clear that increasing Local Property Tax from 12% to 20% was too much, particularly when families are already facing a high cost of living. I could support a 15% increase as a compromise but not above that. People are feeling the pressure, and we have to listen.

I am overwhelmed to be in Dublin for the launch of the Black History Month. Black History Month should not simply be about looking backwards. It should challenge us to look forward.

After the 'Stop the Fare Hikes' leafleting I was delighted to visit the Mahon Men Shed. It was established in October 2025 & it is now a member of the Irish Men Sheds Association. The group has undertaken a wide range of works. This is a valuable community which is accessible and affordable.

Following yesterday’s LPT Special Meeting of Cork City Council, I welcome the agreement on a 3% increase, rather than the 8% originally proposed. This recognises the cost-of-living pressures facing people while generating over €760,000 annually for vital investment across Cork city.

Douglas has huge areas of car parking, much of it covered in tarmac. We should be asking how we can make better use of these spaces by bringing more greenery into our shopping centres. I’ve asked Cork City Council how we can encourage this. Let’s make our city greener and more liveable.

Work has started on the Odlums Building at the Marina. This will deliver hundreds of new homes and is the first phase of the Marina redevelopment. With the new bridge linking the train station, the city centre and the southside, this is a major step towards a Living City for Cork.

Comments like this are exactly why we need to keep speaking out against racism. I'm proud to live in Ireland, proud to serve my community, & proud to contribute to the country I call home. Racism has no place in our politics, our communities or our country. Ireland is my home. I am going nowhere!

Residents in Bayly, Douglas are being let down by Cork City Council. No street lighting beyond Maryborough Wood, dangerous speeding, no bus stop & delays to the link to the Mangala. These are basic services residents deserve. I’m calling for action now to fix this.

Great to see Cork’s bridges being painted red! I brought a motion to Cork City Council in December 2025 calling for our bridges to be painted red as part of our Living City agenda. Proud to see it happening. Let’s keep making Cork a city we can all be proud of.

This is not fairness. This is not leadership. And it is not acceptable. I am deeply disappointed and angry about the new citizenship rules. How can forcing people to wait eight years before they can even apply for citizenship possibly solve the problems facing Ireland? 🧵

Great news for North Main Street. The old Diesel Shop, derelict for years, will become retail & accommodation with up to 25 homes. I brought a motion on this in 2025 to Cork city council. Now let’s tackle dereliction across Cork and bring our city centre back to life. Let’s deliver a Living City.

A long neglected property in Monerea Terrace was an eyesore in the middle of our city. After my motion to Cork City Council, the property was compulsorily purchased and will now be brought back into use as accommodation. This is another step towards a Living City!

A vacant property on Blackrock Road has been brought back to life as much needed accommodation. Bringing empty homes back into use is vital during our housing crisis. The Green Party introduced the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant. Another great step towards delivering a Living City!

Cork’s new city library should be a building that Cork people can help shape. I’m bringing a motion to Cork City Council calling for a design competition, giving locals the opportunity to contribute to it's design. And any council owned vacant buildings? We need to turn them into homes.

Public transport fares are going up again in January. That’s not good enough for people in Cork. At a time when we need people to choose public transport, the Government should be making it more affordable. Instead, they are taking more money from people’s pockets.

Two city-centre car parks sitting around half empty for much of the year makes little sense. I’ve proposed amalgamating North Main Street and Paul Street car parks, freeing up North Main Street for housing and accommodation. More homes and a more vibrant Living City!

I’m at the Palestine Rally after the Tidy Towns this afternoon. The call from the rally is clear: I encourage the FAI to stop the game against Israel. This is not about the players. It is about the FAI taking a stand and using the influence of Irish football to stand with Palestine.
