Looking at the list of programmes cut, I am very, very disappointed. Thinking Allowed introduced me to sociology in bite-size chunks. I worry that we are seeing the death of the BBC by a thousand cuts. Yes, the BBC isn’t perfect; but only when it is gone, will people realise what they’ve lost.

Ladybird wisdom Camping (1977) "Heavy rain need not be a problem" Artist: Martin Aitchison
This illustration is in the form of a detailed cartoon showing a dark and stormy day with heavy rain. Inside a tent a camper looks very pleased with himself in a dry and cozy set up with simple furniture. The rain is kept off the tent by careful pitching and the construction of a most with drawbridge!

Dorothea Bate has been honoured with a Historic England blue plaque at the Natural History Museum in Tring! 🌟 Dorothea had no formal qualifications when she walked into the Museum in 1898 looking for a job. She went on to become a renowned palaeontologist, known for her fossil mammal discoveries.
Photograph of Dorothea Bate in profile facing left, showing short, wavy hair styled close to the head. The black-and-white portrait has a vintage appearance, likely from the early to mid-20th century.

It's Ivy Bee (Colletes hederae) mating ball time! My local aggregation has hundreds of male bees out and now the females are emerging too. Watched several mating balls form and then roll down the steep bank, spilling bees as they went.
A small cluster of bees in a ball on an earth bank amongst bits of dry vegetation. The bees have a tawny-haired thorax and a black and buff striped abdomen. The 'ball' is several male bees around a single female that they are all trying to mate with.A small cluster of bees in a ball on an earth bank amongst bits of dry vegetation. UK intelligence services say nature loss is a national security threat & loss of pollinators a major threat to UK food production. The Government knows it. MPs debated it in parliament yesterday. It’s time to treat the recovery of nature & climate as a whole-of-Government priority, not a side issue.
