Shifting the Overton window is the most impactful thing you can do in politics. The far right have understood that well and acted on it. That’s a lesson for the left and centre to still learn.

My view is that you have to fight an argument that plays on emotions rather than evidence, either a counter which also elicits an emotional response. I think ridicule is appropriate and can be effective. Need to avoid scope for ‘look, the woke are laughing at you’ responses though.

As a pensioner, I have no problem with the triple lock being removed. Fixing social care is far more important and would benefit pensioners more. When Conservatives scream betrayal, remind them that they suspended it in 2022 when it suited them.

Would love to buy a copy, but the online purchasing process is so flaky. It rejects my (correct) phone number and won’t proceed without a valid one. It also tries to mess with my address. Have tried various permutations of gaps, no gaps, leading ‘0’, no ‘0’ etc. sorry.

The problem isn't rogue #AI models, it's *negligent companies*. If a biomedical firm put their product in public water supply because they wanted to test it 'in the real world', they'd be treated as criminal at corporate & individual level. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

I want the Prime Minister to look into a TV camera and say the RNLI are heroes, that we do not change policy by street violence in this country, and that he expects any criminal action to face the full force of the law. That's it. That's all he has to do.

I think they hamstrung themselves by accepting that, under the relevant definition, GB News is an ‘entertainment’ channel, not a ‘news’ channel. What I’m less sure about is whether that definition is a statutory one, or an Ofcom policy one.

It is incredibly important that political violence does not succeed. The far-right mob that shut down Portsmouth wanted this outcome. If the state wishes to avoid more of these actions, it needs to make sure this RNLI branch reopens *immediately*, or as close to that as humanly possible.

Is it Ofcom that is useless, or is it that Ofcom’s regulatory powers are so hedged around and hobbled - by previous governments’ nervousness around ‘the freedom of the press’ - that they lack the teeth they need?

I would love to ask a prominent BBC journalist to give me an example of an illegitimate concern. Is seems to me that it has become a question not of fact, logic, or ethics but of volume. If a big enough proportion of a village was anxious about Bigfoot or Chemtrails, BBC would cover it in a way...

NEW Why holding a placard is a terrorist act, while causing disruption in a balaclava is not The mess caused by ministers and the police not taking terrorism law seriously By me at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/th...

Recent events in England now reveal the practical difference between terrorists and protesters. It would seem that terrorists peacefully hold placards and get immediately arrested, while protesters wear black uniforms and balaclavas and disrupt infrastructure and do not get arrested.

How did we get into this mess? How have we placed ourselves in the position where terrorism legislation is used to detain and prosecute peaceful protesters, while those adopting the terror tactics of private armies seem to be free to do as they wish?

The reason is that for some time British politicians have not taken terrorism legislation seriously, and that ministers have got into the habit of misusing terror laws for easy targets.
