John Arthur Kelly, of #Nelson, was returning home on the Lusitania in 1915 when it was sunk by a German U-boat. He's remembered on the family #Grave at St John's Church Graveyard. I'd like to think he is in Margate, but there are no Lusitania victims listed there. He isn't on the list of recovered.

This is a very impressive way to highlight and preserve in times when it is hard to find the finance for history unless a specific trust was set up for it. I love it. I'm going to look more into it, thank you for sharing.

Look! I copied from an AI search, but it's a start! 'ARM on a gravestone typically stands for "Arms of the Resurrection of the Martyrs," which is a Christian symbol representing the resurrection and eternal life. It is often used in the context of memorials within the Church of England.'

I never ruled anything in or out for sure. I found information on Maltese hospital brethren and something to do with a Catholic order of knights, but the Catholic Church didn't respond to my questions, so it went quiet, until now...

I'm thinking more Pakistani, punjabi/urdu calligraphy fonts? There would be plenty around Leicester. As there is in East Lancs.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 9: Lettering Forgotten Words Bexleyheath Cemetary
Close up photograph of a gravestone that has fallen and laying on its back. Water has pooled on the surface and loosened all of the letters away from the stone. They are now jumbled like spaghetti letters. Some freshly cut grass lays amongst the letters. A flower is also carved into the stone.

A good Friday to you. Here in Pictou County for multiple types of #Lettering on #31DaysofGraves Day 9. Lewis Island is in the Outer Hebrides; Toney River looks out over the Northumberland strait in Nova Scotia. Hope Alexander felt at home here.
A headstone from ~1877 for Alexander McDonald. White stone with an open bible engraving at the top. There are at least three types of lettering on the stone. Gothic, serif and non serif, italics.

HERTA STRODA GEB. KRUSE
* 28.6.1909 + 2.5.2004
LORE-HELGA KRUSE GEB. GEISHEIM
* 13.3.1940 + 23.8.2018

geb. Dietrich
* 31.7.1959 + 7.1.2019

#31DaysOfGraves #Lettering Not quite a gravestone, although it is in a graveyard, and not quite letter-ing, but letters: a "postbox to heaven" in Wolston, Warwickshire, suggested by a grieving relative. Read about it at www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
A typical country postbox on a pole. The box has been painted white with gold lettering. It bears the usual "Post Office E [crown] R" but on the side, and the front, is inscribed a drawing of an envelope , followed by "Letters To Lost Loved Ones". The postbox is situated within a graveyard.

#31DaysOfGraves 2026 Day 9: Lettering / Tag 9: Schrift Heute etwas Besonderes: das älteste Grabmal auf dem Alten St. Matthäus Kirchhof in Berlin Es wurde für Ferdinand Streichenberg-Scharmer (geb. 28.4.1838 in London, gest.
