Stepping into today’s #OnlineArtExchange with Gerda Wegener’s breakthrough masterpiece: the iconic 'Portrait of Ellen von Kohl' (1906). A captivating gaze framed by deep lace, where classical elegance meets the very spark that ignited the artist's legendary career. @artukdotorg.bsky.social
An oil on canvas portrait from 1906 by Gerda Wegener. It depicts a woman with dark, short, voluminous hair, sitting and looking forward with a serene expression. She wears an elegant dark lace gown with intricate embroidered details along the neckline and cuffs. Her hands rest gently on her lap, showcasing rings. The background features soft green textures that evoke blurred foliage or plants.

#31DaysOfGraves Day 4: Entrance/Eingang 📍Old cemetery in Darmstadt SO NEAR YET SO FAR AWAY/ SO NAH UND DOCH SO FERN.
A close-up photograph of a weathered stone monument standing in a lush, ivy-covered garden. The monument features a small metal relief of a person at the top, with a staircase-like design beneath it and the German inscription “SO NAH UND DOCH SO FERN” engraved on the front. Green foliage surrounds the monument, creating a peaceful and slightly melancholic atmosphere.

Today's #31DaysofGraves theme is #Vehicle so we're looking at our memorial to Thomas Tynne, murdered in 1681 on the orders of Count Karl Johann Konigsmark, a jealous suitor of his wife. The killers waylaid Thynne's coach in London's Haymarket and fired into it - a scene depicted on the memorial.
A large white marble memorial to Thomas Thynne in Westminster Abbey. The figure of Thynee reclines above a relief depicting the ambush of his carriage in which he was murdered.

‘This can’t go on’: tens of thousands protest against housing crisis in Spain
Demonstrators take to the streets of Madrid and other Spanish cities after new legislation fails to pass Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets of Madrid and other Spanish cities as they step up demands for action to tackle a mounting housing crisis after government measures were struck down by the opposition. Demonstrators on Saturday waved posters calling for a general strike after the measures drawn up to address mass anger over the eviction of an 87-year-old woman in Madrid, and other housing issues, were rejected in parliament on Friday. I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."
