Well you should've tied them down better.
A sign in a shop, locally printed in a default word processor font on A4 paper saying “helium balloons are now upstairs”, stuck partially over a more corporate official-looking sign (red and yellow, parts of words that might be “for latest offers" visible) which has “boyesstores” in the corner, then a Facebook logo

To summarise yesterday evening, Mr Benn is out of the Cabinet, Mr Healey has returned to the Cabinet and Mr Kinnock has joined the Cabinet for the first time.

Quoted as an image because it’s a friend’s joke from Facebook and I can’t take credit for it.

Strongly agree with this. There’s a world of difference between replacing the Triple Lock with some sort of smoothed earnings link as against going back to the damaging policy of the 1980 to 2010 period of linking just to inflation.

For the medium / long-term I would agree. But we’ve got lots of people in the run-up to retirement for whom AE came too late, and for where extra voluntary saving now wouldn’t get them over the line in time. It’s now a political choice whether we let their living standards slump on retirement.

Hi Richard! I guess the challenge is woefully small typical DC pots for now. Would need a hefty govt top up to get those near retirement to a meaningful level?

Not sure I agree with you premise. The state pension is worth just over 30% of average earnings. So are you saying someone on this income level can comfortably absorb a cut in income of 70%?

I’ve come to the view that the state pension Triple Lock (or similar generous increases) needs to go on for longer. TL:DR because private pension savings are nowhere the level needed to make up the ‘other half’ of what we need in retirement. My piece for the Telegraph today:
