Some economists point out that measures we take won't hit US GDP nearly as much as US measures hit our GDP. That math is correct. Those economists then assume that US policy decisions are based on GDP and advise complete capitulation. That is terrible policy advice based on a risible assumption.

Spotted a nice VW Beetle yesterday morning and am having a bit of a Mandela effect moment with respect to the emblem on the hood. Was this the usual symbol for this style of Beetle? Preliminary googling suggests it was used in the late 50s and early 60s for Bugs made in Wolfsburg

Another good find today - nice BCTF pin with the logo forming a stylized “lamp of learning” (a common motif for the BCTF and teachers’ unions generally). Also mid-80s, I think?

The 12yo has declared it Atlantic Cranch Squid Awareness Day! The subarctic and temperate Atlantic Teuthowenia megalops is named for its big eyes. It’s a transparent glass squid with bioluminescent organs which can look like a bird when swimming so is also called a cockatoo squid.
