If you lose power during Hurricane Isaias and use a portable generator, remember to run it at least 20 feet away from your home. Never run a generator indoors. Carbon monoxide is a deadly gas you can't see or smell and it can kill in minutes.
One portable generator with an equal sign next to a lot of cars. The text reads: one portable generator can produce as much carbon monoxide as hundreds of mid-size cars. Only use your generator outdoors and 20 feet away from your home.

Thoughts on the intersection of findings that the administration diverted $1.4B in NSF funds away from investigator-initiated research and today's New Golden Age of Science Summit showcasing the White House's preferred political priorities of what constitutes 'science'.

Rhetoric heralding a New Golden Age of Science obscures what is evident: the White House is undermining capacity for investigator-led basic research.

Trump Makes $100 Million Push to Train American Scientists

By Liam Knox
October 7, 2026 at 7:00 PM UTC

The Trump administration is injecting more than $100 million into education programs for American researchers in STEM fields, as federal policies stanch the flow of foreign scientists to the US and policymakers focus on an AI arms race with China.
The initiative, which President Donald Trump is set to announce at a White House summit on Thursday, aims to increase the number of highly trained scientific researchers who are American citizens through fellowships for PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines, according to a White House official.
