"Argh!". He jumped almost a foot in the air at the sensation of a hand slipping
into his. "What the fuuuuu...". He looked down, realized that the hand
belonged to a little boy, and hurriedly substituted "fiddlesticks."
The boy had a mop of curly golden hair, wide hazel eyes, and a beaming
smile. He tilted his head back to take Ed in properly from his low vantage
point and chirped "Hello, Kraken!".
This was written for Day 1 of Step Dad Ed Week ("First Meeting"). Yeah, I'm a
little late!
I was inspired by a post I saw recently on the Cursed Bird App That Shall
Remain Nameless. I won't post a link, but basically, it was from a guy who
found himself befriended by a little boy because, to the boy's mind, the guy's
leather jacket made him "friend shaped". The instant I read it, I said "That's
Ed and Louis." Hope you enjoy!

Ed shivers. They’re sitting in some staggered bench seats in front of the Kelp Forest, a multi-story aquarium filled with towering golden-brown kelp and hundreds of remarkable creatures, sunlight making the water shimmer blue-green. It’s probably not cool to make out while an unsuspecting aquarium employee gives a lecture about leopard sharks, but Ed wants to. He really wants to. And Stede knows exactly what he’s doing, by the smug look on his face when Ed glances at him.

“What, you don’t see them?” says Ed, letting his voice go a bit grumbly. Stede gasps, just a little, and Ed smirks at him. He points at the aquarium. “Just there? You didn’t see? You can’t miss them!”

“Sorry, but I got distracted by another marvelous creature.”

Ed’s eyes go misty instantly. “Aw, babe.”

“Ssssh!” Alma hisses from in front of them.

Another stepdad Ed fic of mine- this one was written for the advent calendar event last year. Ed owns an inclusive holiday store, met Stede over an Elf on the Shelf emergency, and they were literally married within a month 😂 Then comes the hard (and wonderful) bit (co-parenting a tween) 🔗👇

Giving my numbat camp fic a nod here- it's the /planning/ phase of a stepdad Ed future, you might say, with 14yo Alma trying to matchmake her favourite teacher Ed and her teacher dad Stede on a school camp. Things do not go as planned (but the stepdad status is an inevitability from day one) 👇🔗
