Wanted: Someone to help me fake my death. I am not trying to commit insurance fraud or avoid criminal charges, but beyond that my reasons remain private. Must have skills and access including but not limited to obtaining a duplicate corpse, lying, misdemeanor level fraud, and a general spirit for malfeasance. Will pay handsomely, pay is negotiable DOE. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY! Please do not message me with the intent to interview me for a scientific journal, I WILL NOT BE FALLING FOR THAT ONE AGAIN!

Excerpt from the story:

"So," Ed says, swiping crumbs out of his beard. "No offense, but a public place might not really be the best place to talk business."

To Ed's surprise, Stede immediately agrees. "Oh, no, of course not. But I had no intentions of talking business just yet."

"Huh?"

"Well, it's sort of a big ask, isn't it? Whoever assists me with my 'project' as it were is someone I'll have to have a great deal of close contact with. And, what's more, once the project is complete, they'll be the only person I really know. And! Of course! I have no expectations that you maintain contact after the project is complete! But, well… You never know?" Stede ends with a hopeful little glance that makes Ed feel insane for how quickly and easily it pulls at his heartstrings, makes him want to promise Stede everything and forever.

"So," Stede continues. "This meeting is simply to get to know you! See if we're compatible! Enjoy some company and some tasty pastries! Business will come later."

Ed blinks. Wonders if Stede knows he's describing a date, though, in fairness, it's not like Ed has a lot of non-theoretical experience in that area. And in even further fairness, Ed is actually totally fine if this is a date. See above about this Stede guy being hot, and also having excellent taste in pastries and suits and hair care, and also this little dimple that keeps peeking out every time he edges towards a smile. So, yeah, let it be sort of a date, let Stede figure that out at his own pace, this is definitely not the first time Ed has desperately tried to inject some pleasure into the bullshit that is his business.
