Like most of the discourse, the headline has it backwards. It’s like: “Can we flap our arms and fly to the moon and, *more importantly*, should we?” Let’s not waste time arguing about the ethics or consequences of impossible things. That’s the debate Colossal want; it accepts their premise.
RNZ heading: “Can we de-extinct the moa and[,] more importantly, should we?”

And the Xyzzy Redux light installation on the side of Hamer Hall is really wonderful. Sitting here watching and listening to the soundtrack that accompanies the lengthy animations. #Melbourne3000 #NowOrNever
On the far side of the Yarra River an animation plays on the building, backed by the skeletal tower lit in purple.

I wouldn't call myself a cartoonist, but I had the vision and just needed it to be on paper to the best of my ability.
A hand drawn eight panel cartoon. First two panels are a colander sitting frowning on a shelf. Then the colander is frowning straining pasta, then three more panels of frowning sitting on a shelf. Then a big panel where it's projecting a bunch of crescent eclipse shapes and smiling with speech bubbles around saying "Wow! Look! Amazing! Beautiful!" And then one final panel where it's sitting on a shelf smiling.

Entomologist here. Great question! It may seem surprising that the scientific community could miss an entire bug species after all this time, especially when it’s THIS big. The answer might surprise you more. Let’s dive in (1/?)

can I ask a question: how does something like this go undiscovered until now

Scientists have discovered a giant new species of stick insect in Australia, which is over 15 inches long and researchers say may be the heaviest insect in the country.

Here’s the email my partner received in full for those interested - it really does read like an outright rejection.
An email from the select committee. It reads: “Your submission on the Legislation (Definition of Woman and Man) Bill

SSC Legislation 4:00 PM
to SSC

Kia ora,
Thank you for making a submission on the Social Services and Community Committee's consideration of the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment
Bill.
The committee has decided to return your submission because it considers that your submission shares personal, private, or medical information about a third party. Written submissions that are accepted are published to the Parliament website. The committee's view is that an individual's sensitive personal information should generally only be disclosed and made publicly available with their informed consent.
If you would like a copy of your submission, please let us know prior to 5pm on 17 July 2026.”
