The new Songs in the Key outtakes EP should be released in the form most faithful to its parent double-album: a generic 33 RPM 7” with muddy compressed sound thrown in an LP sleeve jacket.

My “Choosin’ Texas” hot take: People *are* that excited about the song. The “but no one’s excited about this song!” takes are a reflection of our acceleratingly shrinking mental echo chambers due to coping mechanisms for this fucking shit world - and we’re like too busy to discuss it as nauseum

Seattle just became the first city in America to ban grocery stores from engaging in surveillance pricing. This is a huge win for consumers against companies that abuse their personal data to rip them off. Watch former FTC Chair Lina Khan explain.

YouTube has just recommended me the most psychotic video ever: a “survivalist” “comedy” public access show in the 80s based in Winnipeg called S*U*R*V*I*V*A*L. You can hear the full Chrome/Alice Cooper theme song or you can skip to 8:00 for the, uh, fun part.

Alex says "I'm gonna give back to the community! I'm gonna take that volunteer position for Trans youth mentorship!." A woman at the meeting says "I feel so ugly all the time." Alex comforts her and says "hey... how do you think ugly Cis women feel?" She leans in close with an attempt to do a reassuring smile that comes off as insane and says "they ain't got NO excuse." She returns home and puts her fedora on the hat rack and says "the kids hated my advice. Clearly, it's because they're too woke."

Before that day, CNN dot com was my home page. Being on the opposite coast, I was lucky to not witness what was going on, but because the CNN page was being hit so hard, they put up a 1993-era home page saying basically “U.S. under attack” - and I still remember that being the most chilling thing.

Sorry for the super music niche “You Can See Everything” meme that @50poundnote.com might appreciate
Three panel meme of the upcoming A24 film You Can See Everything. Top panel is Elizabeth Holmes saying “I don’t believe in reincarnation because I refuse to come back as a bug or as a rabbit”. Middle panel with Nathan Fielder says “You know, you’re a really ‘up’ person”, the final panel is a gray box that says “Yamaha RX11 drum fill”. It’s a reference to the Robert Longo directed music video for New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle” that a features a dramatic b&w theatrical interruption in the middle of the music where these two lines of dialogue are performed.

I got Nirvana's With The Lights Out box set when I was 13 or so and thought it was the coolest thing. Loved the scans of Kurt's hand-written notes in the booklet, listening to unpolished demo versions of songs and thinking about how they evolved, and the DVD had some cool footage too

This four-disc set Cole Porter songs covered over the decades was a great way to get into both the songs and the musicians, all from way before my time; it also meant Red Hot + Blue hit harder when it came out a few years later. But also, this is why I got my first CD player. To listen to this.

Laughing Clowns - Cruel, But Fair: The Complete Clowns Recordings. Excerpts from a 2006 Resonance review that never appeared online (I should post it at some point). I've enjoyed Ed Kuepper's solo stuff and work with the Saints and Aints, but Laughing Clowns were a revelation.
The story of the Laughing Clowns begins in 1979 when Kuepper bailed on the Saints after a tremendous trio of recordings, including 1977's scorching debut, (I'm) Stranded. After putting the Clowns to bed in 1984, Kuepper founded the Aints with Kent Steedman of the Celibate Rifles (his answer to Bailey’s continuing use of the name the Saints) and embarked on a solo career that continues to this day.
With the release of the 48-track box set Cruel but Fair: The Complete Clowns Recordings, Kuepper's brass-saturated assemblage is getting a second chance to reach a new audience. Australia's Hot Records has also released This Is the Magic Mile, 49 tracks showcasing Kuepper's eclectic solo work—plus two Aints cuts—from 1990-2000. On his own, the prolific songwriter has issued over two dozen full-length records, including live and mail order-exclusives.Trying to find analogues to their complicated sound is a fool's game. During their short lifespan, the Clowns were constantly evolving. There's the ghost of Ornette Coleman in the wailing "Theme from 'Mad Flies, Mad Flies'" from Mr. Uddich-Schmuddich, there's a glimmer of the Minutemen in the fast-funk of "Every Dog Has Its Day" off Everything That Flies. In the notes, Kuepper claims he was listening to a lot of Pharaoh Sanders and Sun Ra at the time, but disdains the phrase "jazz rock." Then there are his drawling, yet carefully enunciated vocals—like a more down to earth Howard Devoto.Box set cover with a John Foy illustration of a...laughing clown in shades of violet and orange. Three CD-set on Hot Records, 2005.

I’d say The Fall Peel sessions but in reality it’s from listening to tapes of those sessions many, many years before the box came out. Only other thing that springs to mind is a distinctly non-deluxe Too Pure Sampler CD (‘Pop: Do We…’). Maybe cheap label sampler CDs could be a whole other thread.
