(No spoilers) Knowing nothing about Digger other than the trailer: it looks like Tom Cruise’s Hudsucker Proxy with a horrifically animated cat.

Happy 90th, Steve Reich. “It’s Gonna Rain” still stands the test of time: a simple phasing experiment with a tape loop of a passionate preacher, that gets used in techno sets 30 years later and still is. (I was lucky to see The Cave live in the early 90s & Music for 18 a few years back.)

Well, that Matthew Dear vs. Juan Maclane B2B DJ set was hard, pummeling, tribal, weird and fun — *exactly* what I wanted tonight. One of the best shows of the year.
John Maclane (aka The Juan Maclane, wearing a SWANS t-shirt) on the left, and Matthew Dear (aka Audion + more) on the right doing a back-to-back DJ set on stage with smoky green lights.

I generally avoid Generation discourse, but the overuse of “the Gen Z Stare” and “the Millennial Pause” is all old people punching down, so I propose the following for balance: - The Gen X Derp - The Boomer Rictus You’re welcome.

The new Songs in the Key outtakes EP should be released in the form most faithful to its parent double-album: a generic 33 RPM 7” with muddy compressed sound thrown in an LP sleeve jacket.

My “Choosin’ Texas” hot take: People *are* that excited about the song. The “but no one’s excited about this song!” takes are a reflection of our acceleratingly shrinking mental echo chambers due to coping mechanisms for this fucking shit world - and we’re like too busy to discuss it as nauseum

Close on 30 years ago, @quartzcity.bsky.social and I recorded an album by our then-project, The Roswell Incident. @steadystate.bsky.social recorded it and @nedraggett.bsky.social was on hand for a bunch of it to witness. highway62.bandcamp.com/album/transa... You can snag it for nothing.

I just watched the latest ep. of Sidetrack Adventures, & the host Steve linked to a 24/7 livestream/broadcast from inside an abandoned factory (the Silos) next to Owens Dry Lake, Owens Valley. It's amplified feedback from in the factory reacting to the dry lake winds. 752>Satellite Radio. Hit Play.

Seattle just became the first city in America to ban grocery stores from engaging in surveillance pricing. This is a huge win for consumers against companies that abuse their personal data to rip them off. Watch former FTC Chair Lina Khan explain.

YouTube has just recommended me the most psychotic video ever: a “survivalist” “comedy” public access show in the 80s based in Winnipeg called S*U*R*V*I*V*A*L. You can hear the full Chrome/Alice Cooper theme song or you can skip to 8:00 for the, uh, fun part.

In the U.S., Fleetwood Mac were total college radio darlings! — until the 1975 s/t, and then completely uncool with college radio hipsters circa Rumours. I mean, no surprise there. But there was an older Gen X / Young Boomer contingent that did think they were super cool, so your assumption was fine

I’m not the biggest fan of “Choosin’”, but the intro reminds me a lot of Dionne Warwick via Gibb Brothers’ “Heartbreaker”, which alone makes me forgive it for being OK.

Cymande are a relatively underrated British African soul/calypso group that are the midpoint of Funkadelic and Can, avoiding trying to be Too Out There and concentrate on the Mellow Party Groove without sounding sterile nor fake about it.

I was just wondering last week what Kevin Shields thought about Andrew Weatherall's "Soon" remix from 1990, and while most people will tell you "he hated it" (and I dunno, maybe that's true now?), you get a different, more naunced answer from this interview.

This is Lorelei is ruined for me for two reasons: 1) This is Lorelei is not Lorelei, the great 90s dream pop band on Slumberland Records 2) “This is Lorelei” was likely said by Styx’s Dennis DeYoung live for most of 1975-1977.

The easiest way to do the above is to track down the few people who fund it, then devalue it over time, whatever that takes. Far less sexy & less cinematic though.
