When I was in my early/mid 20s, I played pro basketball overseas, relying on the team to navigate everything from housing to phone service to immigration. I had to trust that they — & the country I was essentially an invited guest in — would protect me. Schools here can’t make this promise anymore.

This is... troubling. SCOTUS is allowing the Trump administration to use an error-ridden tool that relies on inaccurate data. This tool has already led to false allegations of non-citizen voting. Now, it could "accidentally" remove legal voters from the rolls, causing real disenfranchisement.

Just almost died crossing San Pablo on Alston. I was in the crosswalk and a driver in a Prius didn’t see me and tried to turn left to go southbound and came inches from hitting me. I yelled “What the fuck!!!” And he didn’t look embarrassed or surprised. Just angry and yelled “fuck you” at me.

Increased police-ICE connection fits neatly within the general stance many Americans have which, as I've said many times, boils down to "deport the bad ones and let the good ones stay." The problem is that those are not real categories and the Trump admin doesn't believe in any "good ones."

Every time I return to Paris, I notice they've done more to reclaim streets from drivers and cars, including removing on-street parking, protecting cyclists from drivers, and prioritizing pedestrians and cyclists in shared spaces. Other cities can learn a lot from Paris.

(1) Obvious cruelty and prejudice of hiding detainees from their families & lawyers. (2) Is not going to get DHS very far on the habeas track; the "unknown custodian" exception lets petitioners name the DHS secretary instead of warden. (3) But that's mostly only good for those with lawyer access.
