Tragic news: Curtis Flowers, who faced an extraordinarily ordeal by being prosecuted six times for the same crime by a Mississippi DA over decades before SCOTUS sided with him in 2019, just died at 56. Flowers' case was core to the 'In the Dark' podcast.

Wrongly imprisoned Curtis Flowers dies
After Flowers was convicted in a sixth trial, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned it and a state judge dismissed capital murder charges against him.

This was the first abortion rights march I ever attended. I made the trip from Montreal to DC to attend: www.history.com/this-day-in-... People were already saying that Roe was NOT ENOUGH and that it would fall. This was in 1992.

I hate the dismissive way politics-heads talk about lefties having “purity tests” as an insult. It’s such a sneer. But looked at another way - what it really means is that they have DIFFERENT purity tests. E.g. if we demand full trans rights, that’s supposedly a purity test. Why? [cont]

For all that it's been barely reported in the UK press, it's still hard to understate the importance of the stance @labourunionsuk.bsky.social has taken on trans and non-binary rights this week. Every single trade union affiliated to the party of government has stood up and said we will not comply.
Joint statement from National TULO

Solidarity with the trans and non-binary community

Labour's 11 affiliated trade unions stand in total solidarity with the trans and non-binary community.

Trans rights are human rights, and trans rights are workers' rights.

We in the trade union movement will do all we can to stand up for our trans members and all our trans siblings, to protect them from persecution, harassment and attack.

The government must act now to protect all trans people, to make sure their rights are protected, expanded and upheld in our workplaces and communities.

My greatest frustrating has been with policy wonks who persist in thinking we can just keep doing normal policy analysis ("calling balls and strikes") in this situation. The President of the United States is both lawless and out of his mind. That preempts all normal discussion.
