Important thread. When a military acquires its own funding sources, it becomes unaccountable. See, for instance, Pakistan.

Both the Economist and others suggest this study demonstrates that AI can help students. So I contacted the lead researcher to figure out how many. Answer: Out of ~26,000 kids, a total of 20. And five months after starting to use AI, only four continued to spend 65 minutes on homework. Four.
Graph of student exam scores correlated to homework completion time for to groups, students using AI and those that did not. There is a slight spike for studens using AI who also maintained extensive homework completion time. As described in post, the number of students falling into this bucket was 20 out of 26,000.

people keep calling these tire marks, but they don't line up with where the pictures showed the SUVs driving. I think they're probably just the natural deposit lines that develop as water drains on a sloped surface and has periods where the level is paused, like shells get dropped at high tide marks

I would kill or die for Larry
A small operation in Oregon that hunts truffles with a trained dog has added an unpaid trainee. A cat named Larry accompanies the handler and the truffle dog into the woods every outing, works a patch of ground a little apart from them, and digs with tremendous confidence in places where there is nothing.
The handler says Larry has never found a truffle and shows no sign of understanding the assignment. He does not use scent the way the dog does and he does not respond when the dog makes a find.
He simply digs his own holes nearby and then inspects them. "He thinks he's on the team," the handler said. "He is emphatically not on the team."

I'm annoyed at news articles about Trump's refusal to sign a bill that don't mention that an unsigned bill automatically becomes a law after 10 days if Congress is in session. If you, as a journalist, aren't highlighting how silly and empty his actions are, you're failing your responsibilities.
