I am also done doing this. I don’t like a bunch of stuff and doing the all taste is good taste bit has brought us things like “maybe it could be normal to hold a SaaS conference for sexually harassing women”

I would love to read an ethnography about people for whom everything is filtered through SaaS bc reading this makes me feel like I am dissociating. I did not understand how essentially of a piece the Zizians are with the broader milieu

How are these two things in the same paragraph
Jon Boutcher, the head of the Police Service of Northern Ireland called for "those with influence to encourage people to comply with the law," referring to a large protest blocking the Garvaghy Road. He said there has been no signs of violence or disorder.

Tragic. “”None of us have any experience treating this disease, because up until a couple of months ago, it didn’t occur,” said Dr. John Goldman, an infectious disease expert at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The learning curve among doctors, he said, is “very steep.””

I don't mean what I'm about to say in a sappy way, but a fairly hard-nosed one: natural ecosystems are often remarkably good at recovering from serious local natural disasters *if they are given the chance.*

Crazy to imagine David Harvey writing this in 2005 (from a brief history of neoliberalism)
Planning and control are being attacked as a denial of freedom. Free enterprise and private ownership are declared to be essentials of freedom.
No society built on other foundations is said to deserve to be called free.
The freedom that regulation creates is denounced as unfreedom; the justice, liberty and welfare it offers are decried as a camouflage of slavery.35
The idea of freedom 'thus degenerates into a mere advocacy of free enterprise, which means 'the fullness of freedom for those whose income, leisure and security need no enhancing, and a mere pittance of liberty for the people, who may in vain attempt to make use of their democratic rights to gain shelter from the power of the owners of property. But if, as is always the case, 'no society is possible in which power and compulsion are absent, nor a world in which force has no function', then the only way this liberal utopian vision could be sustained is by force, violence, and authoritarian-ism. Liberal or neoliberal utopianism is doomed, in Polanyi's view, to be frustrated by authoritarianism, or even outright fascism.36
The good freedoms are lost, the bad ones take over.
Polanyi's diagnosis appears peculiarly appropriate to our contemporary condition. It provides a powerful vantage point from which to understand what President Bush intends when he asserts that 'as the greatest power on earth we [the US] have an obligation to help the spread of freedom'. It helps explain why neoliberalism

I've spent a lot of years studying a lot of collapses, and the truth of the matter is that they're always mundane: mild climatic shifts that reduce crop yields, a dumbass in power who makes some terrible decisions, neglecting things that obviously matter but the will to fix them can't be summoned.

The solar revolution — made possible by cheap Chinese panels — is transforming energy, economies and lives in the developing and industrialised world alike. But such a massive, ungovernable influx of energy carries significant risks, too ... Today's Big Read is on #FTEdit 👉 ft.trib.al/EhTO8yz
Two charts show solar’s rapid rise and plunging costs. Installed solar capacity climbs sharply from 2014 to 2025, led increasingly by China and the rest of Asia-Pacific. Meanwhile, inflation-adjusted solar-module prices collapse from nearly $40 per watt in 1980 to well below $1 today.
