Here’s the “elephant in the room” with the outstanding (and FAST) growth in urban biking here in Paris — the tension between 2 NATURAL ALLIES, people on bikes and people walking, needs work, lest it become a political wedge issue. City Hall reminds everyone that pedestrians have priority EVERYWHERE.

The OBR forecast now assumes fuel duty will rise by 5p in March 2026 and uprated by RPI in every year from April 2026. Yet the reversal of the 5p cut has been delayed three times and fuel duty has not been uprated with RPI since 2011! obr.uk/docs/dlm_upl...

Remember this picture, & others like it, every time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s. Many of the cities we admire made better choices regarding cars in the past. and are still making better choices today. Better choices instead of excuses.

Historic Cox's Walk footbridge has been officially reopened after extensive restoration. The bridge in Sydenham Woods, Dulwich, has been designed in a way that protects trees and the woodland habitat. Thank you to all the local volunteers who helped make this happen. #StreetsForPeople

Been speaking with Aaron Paul on BBC London about parking enforcement fines going up for first time in 13 years. 🚶🏽‍♀️‍➡️ 👨🏽‍🦯‍➡️ 👩‍🦽‍➡️Parking rules exist to keep our streets safe and to let people use dropped kerbs and cross the road safely. 👮🏼‍♀️ Fines need to cover the cost of enforcement and deter bad parking.

A very clear response from London Fire Commissioner, Andy Rowe to a question at Fire Plenary last week from Emma Best AM about the impact of LTNs on fire brigade attendance times. "We genuinely couldn't find any evidence of LTNs doing anything to our overall attendance times".

Congestion pricing seems to have triggered a surge in Manhattan pedestrian activity: “Nearly 36M people last month were in areas south of 60th Street in Manhattan, a 4.6% boost from January 2024.” (The increase was 1.6% outside the zone.) Suggests retail sales are growing within the zone, too.

Remember that brief period during Covid in 2020 when Soho pedestrianised a whole load of streets for outdoor dining and, for a brief few months, it wasn't an unpleasant place dominated by rat running motor traffic. Why on earth didn't it stay like that, think of all that extra trade!
