A very special guest at our Keeping it Wild Collective bird ringing session 💙🧡 Pete Salter and the Walthamstow Wetlands bird ringing team led a bird ringing demo at Woodberry Wetlands, giving the Collective the chance to get an incredible up close look at a kingfisher.

🔨 Heard a little drumming in the woods? It could be a great spotted woodpecker. 🐦🌳 At this time of year, these striking black, white and red birds are making the most of autumn’s bounty, extracting seeds from pine cones and tucking into nuts, seeds and insects.

Last weekend, the Walthamstow Wetlands Ringing Group tagged a nightingale during one of their bird ringing sessions! Although nightingales do breed further up the Lee Valley, this is the first sighting sighting at the Wetlands for 20 years, making this a particularly exciting record!
