Just as a private equity firm buys out a corporation and strips it for parts, a consultant class is raiding the Democratic Party and getting “generationally wealthy” along the way New from me and @adambonica.bsky.social newrepublic.com/article/2163...

How the Consulting Class Is Eating the Democratic Party
Fundraising costs gobble up most of the funds raised. Billions are spent on TV ads that have virtually no impact. Candidates may win or lose—but the consulting class always wins.

Using a woman’s own mother, who stayed with the man who raped her daughter at 12, to publicly humiliate her is fucking sick. Weaponizing childhood sexual abuse to shame survivors is straight out of the playbook that has protected abusers and silenced women for generations. /1

For years, I kept going while carrying trauma I barely knew how to name. Learning to turn toward the parts of myself I’d kept shut away has changed how I feel, how I love, and how fully I can show up in the world, and I’m so grateful to be able to share this experience 4/4

I'm still doing my regular work, but I've also spent the last couple of years training in soul retrieval, parts work, and guided psilocybin journeys to address trauma from an embodied, spiritual perspective. I've only been working among my community, but I'm ready to share this more broadly 2/4

As an organizer, it has always been clear how trauma disrupts our ability to relate to one another and be vulnerable in community. Through addressing my own trauma, I've become a much better organizer (as well as parent and partner). That brought me to developing an energy healing practice 1/4

Spent a good chunk of 2021 and 2022 providing answers to these questions directly to Democratic senators. They know the answers--they just don't like them. The job is to convince them they need to start liking those answers or lose their jobs, and the circular debate makes that really difficult

pet peeve of mine that you see in all sorts of contexts: posing questions that "need to be answered" that have been answered many times. this just mires the debate in an endless loop where one side has to argue and the other just asks the same questions over and over.

Today, we're announcing a new legal leadership pipeline to help shape law, policy, and economic power. @peoplesparity.bsky.social's staff, network, and programming will be integrated into Roosevelt this fall and winter, carrying PPP's mission forward inside the Roosevelt Society.
Photo of Elizabeth Wilkins, President and CEO of the Roosevelt Institute, smiling in black glasses, a purple jacket, and a white blouse against a dark gray background. Text: “Bringing this legal network into the Roosevelt Society allows us to build that capacity in a profession that has enormous influence over how rules shape people’s lives and what government can do to serve the public. Together, we hope to develop a generation of lawyers who understand how we can reshape law to work for the many rather than the few. That is a critical part of preparing for the next pro-democracy governing moment.”Photo of Molly Coleman, Co-Founder of People’s Parity Project (PPP), smiling with her arms crossed, wearing a black turtleneck and gold earrings, standing against a light blue wall. Text: “We founded PPP on a simple belief: practicing law is never neutral. Every lawyer and judge is making choices about whose interests the system serves, and they should answer for those choices to the public, not just to each other.”

There's a lot of sorta sanitized 'School House Rock' to Marbury v. Madison, which the legal academy and jurists themselves have adopted One of the myths of Marbury was that it _contemporaneously_ had a wide & noticed impact, when in fact it was buried and overlooked for ~80+ years

Underneath, it says "The quiet glow known as foxfire appears only when the conditions are right. We believe meaningful communities grow the same way. Healthy ecosystems are built through countless relationships, each contributing to something larger than itself. Foxfire strives to cultivate those same conditions for learning, belonging, and community."Clip from the website reading "Healthy communities don't happen by accident. They're building through commitment shared by the people who care for them. Every family has different gifts, different capacities, and different seasons of life. A cooperative works best when people contribute where they can make the greatest impact. No one is expected to do everything, but everyone plays a part in helping Foxfire grow."Clip reading "Like any living thing, Foxfire is always evolving because the people who make up our community are always evolving too.
