If you're a Westchester voter and you don't already know who Mike Lawlor is, would you be able to guess which of these candidates is the Democrat?

What if education were something we built in community rather than a product handed down to us? We’re building community around the idea that learning can be a practice of democracy, inclusion, and solidarity. Any support is appreciated as we get off the ground! bankingcrowded.com/collect-hub/...
Image from the Foxfire Homeschool Cooperative website featuring a logo of a fox made up of mycelia over the name of the organization. Underneath it says "Raising Curious Kids, Building Healthy Community." All of this is over a dark background featuring mushrooms glowing with foxfire.Clip from the website with the heading "When the conditions are right." Underneath, it says "The quiet glow known as foxfire appears only when the conditions are right. We believe meaningful communities grow the same way. Healthy ecosystems are built through countless relationships, each contributing to something larger than itself. Foxfire strives to cultivate those same conditions for learning, belonging, and community."Clip from the website reading "Healthy communities don't happen by accident. They're building through commitment shared by the people who care for them. Every family has different gifts, different capacities, and different seasons of life. A cooperative works best when people contribute where they can make the greatest impact. No one is expected to do everything, but everyone plays a part in helping Foxfire grow."Clip reading "Like any living thing, Foxfire is always evolving because the people who make up our community are always evolving too. As children grow, families discover new interests, and fresh ideas take root, so do new classes, traditions, and opportunities to learn together. The result is a community that's always growing, always learning, and never standing still."

You really can't understand what is going on if you don't understand the constant fear that these men live in
Clip from the article: "If hegemonic masculinity is defined by anything, it is anxiety. From that quivering, flabby mass radiates all the other things we’re likelier to associate with it—violence, status games, domination, overt misogyny. For such men, life is a wilderness of insecurities. Men comparing themselves to other men, threatened by women, and needing to prove that they belong here. For these PMC men, class treason means expiating their anxiety by building up and elevating offensive caricatures of manhood as exemplars that we all must follow; through their own forelock-tugging displays of obeisance, they hope to prove that they, too, know what a Real Man is and can therefore be forgiven for knowing how to eat with chopsticks, having opinions about Microsoft Excel, and enjoying the odd microbrew."

Evidence for the claim that "people immediately declared it to be an authoritarian plot" is a single paragraph mentioning Trump's laundry list of potential "conquests." My actual article is just a history of the draft, but I shouldn't expect the Free Press to let reading get in the way of a hot take
Screenshot of Free Press headline reading "No, You Are Not Being Drafted" with subhed "The Trump administration announced a small change to the draft registration rules--and people immediately declared it to be an authoritarian plot." Screenshot from the article reading "In Slate, for instance, Steve Kennedy wrote about how “Trump Just Automated Draft Entry. It’s Time for the Supreme Court to Step In.” The piece begins, ominously, “Even as the war in Iran has seemed to de-escalate since a ceasefire began last week, we’ve recently witnessed just how out of hand things could possibly still get.” From there, Kennedy unspooled a scenario of U.S. boots on the ground in multiple wars started by Trump, unless the Supreme Court stepped in to rule that a draft was unconstitutional."

Clip of article reading, "More fundamentally, sexual assault by a government employee is not just a private wrong. It is a failure of a public institution vested with extraordinary power over people’s lives. When the state responds by insisting that justice hinges on clerical perfection, it reinforces the imbalance of power that enabled abuse in the first place."

Yes, legal structure for this acceleration has been there for quite a while. All it took was for someone to take the reins to expand what was already there, and DHS knows it ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics...
Excerpt from linked article in original post: "The Court’s decision to hollow out Bivens doesn’t just fail to protect people from government violence—it encourages more violence. Taken together, these cases mean that the ICE agents who are now storming apartment buildings and Home Depot parking lots are operating in a legal gray area, confident that whatever they do, courts will probably never hold them liable for it. The justices have created the perfect environment for abuse: an unaccountable paramilitary force with sweeping powers and no meaningful legal check on how they use them. You don’t need a law degree to know how that ends."

Don't have the time to break this into a thread, but thank you so much for calling this out. It's not easy when you're whole life has (shamefully) been about keeping yourself and the people around you from ever experiencing discomfort, but it's also the way out of this
Screenshot of draft post in response: "It feels like such a small, performative thing, but after like thirty years of moving through mostly white spaces as a cishet, white male, and later a veteran to boot, where fascists and collaborators assume I'm one of them and tell me heinous shit, I just traded polos for explicitly leftist, anti-racist, and feminist T-shirts while driving my kids around town or whatever else, and it's led to legitimate conversations around values and organizing. I mean, it's gotten me into some fights too lol, but mostly it's at least a relatively respectful conversation, if not a moral trauma dump from people who would normally never talk about these things."

To me this is the perfect tech bro pitch. Correctly identify a shortcoming in the market but then rather than correcting the underlying issue, just put out an alternate product that makes them the middleman, potentially while circumventing regulations designed for the original middlemen
LinkedIn screenshot from Isaiah N. Granet with the following post: "McKinsey consultants bill $500 an hour to create PowerPoints that AI can now generate in seconds. McKinsey isn't going anywhere.

The paradox makes sense once you realize what companies actually buy. It's not the deck. It's the permission to fire 10,000 people that comes from hearing it from someone in a $3,000 suit who went to Wharton with your board member.

Every industry has these relationship premiums hidden in plain sight. Sommeliers exist because wine descriptions need to come from someone French. Executive recruiters charge 30% of first-year comp to introduce people who are already connected on LinkedIn. Investment bankers take 2% to blessing deals that were decided on the golf course.

These jobs survive automation because they were never about the output. They're about the human need to buy from humans we trust.

At Bland, our AI can explain technical architecture better than most solutions engineers. But Fortune 500s still want to hear it from someone who flew out for the meeting. The flight matters more than the explanation. The expense report is the product.

As AI gets better at everything measurable, the unmeasurable becomes the entire economy. Taste. Judgment. Social proof. The ability to make someone feel heard. The skill of knowing when the client needs good news.

Google's AI can diagnose skin cancer as accurately as dermatologists. Patients still prefer the human doctor. Not because they doubt the AI's competence. Because competence was never the whole job.

The most valuable workers of 2030 won't be the ones who compete with AI. They'll be the ones who make other humans feel comfortable buying from it."
