Today in why your librarian is stressed: academic journals increase in cost about 5% every single year while our funding continues to, at best, stagnate. And that's just the things we already purchase, much less the new acquisitions our patrons need or want.

And while 5% doesn't seem like much, academic journals can cost upwards of $1,000 EACH. Now multiply that across hundreds of journals, and remember that it will be another 5% compounded next year. And don't get us started on video licensing. Or the cost of ebooks.
