I understand that paywalls are annoying, but the grim reality for everything right now, is if you want something to exist, you have to put money towards it. Every creative person is having their life's work hoovered up by AI companies. Layoffs never end. Private equity keeps making things worse.

Morons. We're surrounded by morons. Maybe this one thinks he can get some synthetic voters to provide him with synthetic votes come election time. The Westminster bubble, like the Washington bubble, shows no sign of absorbing just how unpopular this stuff is now, let along how unpopular it will be

Interesting. So, for £2000, any person or organisation can recruit 400 people on a full voting £5 month's membership, and vote through a policy.

Pleased to see 'Plato: a civic life' featured among the best-selling biographies in @reaktionbooks.bsky.social's new catalogue - and sure that Plato would be intrigued by some of the company he is keeping here!
page 60 from the Reaktion books spring 2027 catalogue, titled at the bottom 'Bestselling backlist - biography'. Eight books are featured, with their covers displayed and publication details. Lives include are Thomas Becket, Qaddafi, Enver Hoxha, Gutenberg (left column); Mao, Katherine Mansfield, Plato and Maurice Ravel (right column). The covers of the Mao, Hoxha and Plato books all have a striking red background.

A book sits on a wooden shelf with a vase behind it. On the red cover three Doric columns are topped by the texts Plato: A civic life: Carol Atack

Great moments in Scottish engineering history: James Watt tries to work out how his phone attaches to his selfie stick.
Statue of James Watt. In his right hand he holds a telescopic stick with a frame at the top; in his left he holds a flat object about the size of a large smartphone. He is scowling at the possibly-not-a-smartphone as if he is tempted to yeet it into the sea. On that basis, it probably _is_ a phone.

You could show more confidence as a country by putting AI nowhere near centre stage, and shouting that you won’t be taken in. That’s a confident move. Just like you would magic beans, or a perpetual motion machine, or Bagpuss’ Mouse Mill with the chocolate biscuits.

Those who think AI is going to largely automate white collar jobs in the next couple of years don’t understand the nature of work - @sarahoconnorft.ft.com nails it www.ft.com/content/4aad...
It is not obvious that AI agents could eliminate the need for this type of work, since it involves persuasion, contestation and the exchange of tacit knowledge and experience that is spread across different departments, and often exists inside people's heads rather than in a neatly codified handbook on the intranet.
