Great that Burnham is looking at options to recast Britain’s relationship with the EU and undo the damage of Brexit. But he will surely soon find that there is only one option that works for Britain politically, economically and strategically.

Great if that means Burnham secures a mandate for a new EU relationship without the need for a plebiscite. Of course, Brexiteers could still push for another referendum if and when they secure a parliamentary majority (under the new electoral system)...

Interesting dilemma for the right-wing media which has noisily spent the last year demanding Labour scrap the triple lock as a test of Labour seriousness. Maybe the oligarch press will now throw their support behind Burnham?

How to stop rogue companies such as OpenAI blowing up the world? Force them to take out liability insurance - if they can find anyone to take on their catastrophic risks. "At this point, one might ask whether OpenAI’s real problem is not that it enables rogue agents but that it is a rogue business... Who would want to buy shares in a company whose products keep doing things that, in any other walk of life, would be regarded as criminal?"

Tony Blair’s suggestion that Burnham should adopt a reverse Cameron strategy and commit to rejoining a reformed EU is no solution to Britain’s Brexit dilemma. There is no Third Way this time. The PM needs to choose, or he will find his choice made for him. nixons.substack.com/p/the-bigges...

Liar. Small boat crossings peaked under Johnson in 2022 reaching 46,000 in 2022. In current year they are 18,565 and falling. Also prior to Boris Johnson's Brexit there were none.
It's a disaster, and it can all be traced to
Labour ideology. Burnham has no mandate
from the people. He has no real ideas, and
no plan,

What’s really depressing is that Davey could have used the moment to back full Rejoin. That would have given the LibDems a distinctive and coherent economic and foreign policy, was unlikely to cost the party a single vote and might have shifted the Overton window. Now Burnham may get there first

Rejoining the single market but not the EU is also a fantasy policy. No responsible government could agree to the City becoming a rule-taker given the risks to financial stability, even if the country was willing to become a rule-taker in everything else (highly unlikely)

Trump has thoughts about interest rates. Notably he doesn't seem to attack Warsh after the rate hike, at least for now.
Interest Rates in the United States should be 1%, or less, because we are the Best Credit in the World — BY FAR. Our Country is BOOMING with new Investment! If we stopped Trading with every country that we have a Deficit with, which is most of them, we would make, at least, 1.5 Trillion Dollars a year. The word “Deficit” is nothing more than a fancy word for LOSS. We are “carrying” almost every country in the World, and that cannot go on any longer. LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST! President DONALD J. TRUMP
