The mythology of the changeling where a fairy replaces a baby with an identical but intangibly "wrong" copy is easily read as queer bc the phenomena of parents feeling like their child failing to live up to their idealized image is a murder/replacement is a tale as old as time!

In one of the gravest scientific injustices I have encountered: herrings use gas to communicate, literally they fart to communicate and the effect is called "fast repetitive ticks" abbreviated "FRTs" And NOT PRONOUNCED FARTS. I'm still mad. www.snexplores.org/article/anim...

My pettiest academia opinion is that people care way too much about how a citation is formatted. If I can find the paper you're referencing, you cited it fine. I don't care what's bolded and what's italicized and what order the year vs. issue number is presented in. Fight me. 🧪🦑🌎
A leading paper in my field and the very different ways that different journals require the citation of it to be formatted.

Kingfisher 🪶 🐡
Photo of a small painting being held by a hand for scale with a small paintbrush visible resting on the table behind it. The painting is of a female belted kingfisher, a dark blue and white bird with a long pointed beak evolved for catching fish. This bird has the belt of orange-red feathers which gives it its name and indicates it's a female. The painting is soft and a little dreamy with an out of focus grey-blue background.

We talk a lot about the importance of voting but in doing so, we romanticize it, and I've come to believe that's a mistake. It's not romantic, it's not glorious, it's not an expression of your ideals or your identity. It's selecting the best outcome for the most people. That's all it is. Do that.

re last repost: I stand by my assertion that if someone is being "deported" to somewhere they didn't come from, the correct term is simply "transportation" as in the Victorian practise of shipping convicts off to colonies, this is barbaric 19th century shit and "deportation" is a euphemism here

This one’s been on my mind after listening to the dorky Steller’s jays in my backyard try to do the red-tailed hawk call… A LOT. They’ve been cracking me up and I can only imagine what the neighbor hawks are thinking. 🪶 #TerribleComicTuesday
sketchy comic, Panel 1: jay open mouth “SQUEEAA!”, Panel 2: second jay “lol what even was that? It’s more like… KREEEARR!”, Panel 3: both jays, first one “AHHAHAHA! That’s so bad! I got it… SKEEARREE!”, Panel 4: hawk in foreground looking down on a forest, the two jays are dots in the trees in the background, laughing and attempting the call more, hawk says “wtf.”
