Absolutely something primeval terror inducing about standing alone, facing away from a vanishing sun while the local rook swarm kicks off at the false sunset
Cloudy grey skies with the sun peeking behind them and some nearby roofsA tint dot of light from inside my pinhole viewer showing a chunk of eclipse when the clouds moved briefly

Slowly creeping back to myself and the online world after a turbulent year. Lots is new after putting my life on hold, but one thing that'll never change is my utter thanks to everyone who looked at my little book. Seeing a few plr loans was a very happy surprise amidst severe doubt & winter gloom.

Sun came out today, so went paddleboarding. Made it from one side of the beach to the other twice over. Almost got as far as the Juniata wreck before I chickened out too. D went to see how close he dared get to nesting bonxies, we waved at an isles plane. Good day.

There's a tiny spider in my living room. It likes the sofa. So do I. Spider is a house spider, and won't survive outside well so I'm trying to leave it be, but it keeps coming close enough to cuddle. Might be the more reciprical option, as the cat is more interested in background reality tv than me.

You forgot didn't you? Yeah you did. Don't worry it's easy to forget, the weeks pass so quickly these days of tilting towards the sun! It's #Orkney. It's Monday night. It's 5pm. It's time for EPISODE EIGHT of 'How light is it in #Orkney at 5pm this week?' IT IS THIS LIGHT! 💡
The view out the back of the library. The sky is light blue and the sun is still just visible over the buildings on the horizon.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. #103876: Never worry about whether what you write "matters." It matters because you do. And one day, someone else may read it and understand that they matter, too. This is how we build a world, one connection at a time.

You have always tried to be if not a good man, then a decent one. One who knew the value of an oath. One your father would have recognised as an ally - at least before the paranoia had destroyed him. One that your mother might have been proud of, if you had ever known who she was. Sure, there have been times you have strayed from that ideal: made a few enemies, been chased from one port or another, your name cursed by those you left behind, but you have never been a bas man. Driven, sometimes even ruthless, but always with reason.

As the days pass, it is getting harder for you to argue that you have stayed true to that. You once swore you would stay out of the politics of nations, no matter how desperate things become.

Yet, for what the Isians are offering you, you will break your vow a thousand times if you must, despite knowing what will come of your actions here.Personal photograph of bands of northern lights (aurora borealis) in faint purple in the ceentre and green at the outside. Happy "Microsoft trying to force CoPilot subs" day in the UK for all who celebrate. (They just pinged me my renewal notice with it carefully worded to sound like a compulsory general price increase). 1) Go to your account page 2) Hit cancel 3) Change sub back.

A round circle stark against a white background, highlighting its title inside.Back cover for The Lies We Tell Ourselves by LK Kitney, number 17 of the Luna Novella series. It contains the synopsis, which reads:

"In a world still bearing the scars from an ancient magical conflict, those who wield magic - or are changed by it - are condemned as abominations, their lives forfeit.

Raised at sea under the tyrannical rule of his father, there is nothing the young Captain Fiaer Dradorn won't do for the knowledge of a lost treasure that drove his father's obsession. Even start a war.

Betrayed to the mercy - and consequences - of catastrophic, uncontrolled, magic, Fiaer is left with nothing but the belief in his own monstrosity and the overwhelming desire for revenge.

As his plans take form, he realises that true monstrosity is less what someone is, and more who they chose to be. A choice he must make before others make it for him."

Happy new year! Violently strong red aurora where i live, visible to the naked eye even in my light-polluted town. With the sounds of people yelling through their new-year traditional sport and the red, red sky, it was pretty eerie.

Sorry to steal from Tumblr but this is so accurate it actually made me cry. The "paralysis of will" described here is the most painful symptom of my ADHD.
Some individuals with AD/HD, especially without hyperactivity, have an activation problem as described by Thomas Brown, Ph.D. in his article AD/HD without Hyperactivity (1993). Rather than a deficit of attention, this means that individuals can’t deploy attention, direct it, or put it in the right place at the right time. He explains that adults who do not have hyperactivity often have severe difficulty activating enough to start a task and sustaining the energy to complete it. This is especially true for low-interest activities. Often it means that they can’t think of what to do so they might not be able to act at all, or, as Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo say in You Mean I’m Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!, they might experience a “paralysis of will” (pg. 65). “The clothes from my trip—a month ago—are just still lying in a heap in the suitcase.” “I spend a lot of time in bed watching TV but my mind isn’t watching TV. I’m thinking about what I should be doing, but I don’t have the energy to do it.”

At a time when we, as a world, should be pushing hard for UBI everywhere, governments are doing the reverse, taking away even the tiny safety net we have now, all in the name of unchecked profit growth. The day it's realised that capitalism doesn't work, can't work, it's a cancer, will be a good day
