Lovely to see early Xtian archaeology from Scotland in the news! OK so it's the usual tale of missionaries from Ireland, and the 6th century is only a tiny part of the site's history, but baby steps. Hooray for a community-run project making a real difference for Lismore, and real academic impact

Coolest thing about this story is a brilliant case of the past in the past: the 5.5m tall "Battle Cross" now in Aldborough, dated to the 15th c, is now proven to have been carved from one of the Devil's Arrows standing stones

Our recumbent gravestones, originally covering the graves of Strathclyde elites in the c. 9th - 11th centuries, feature crosses and beautiful interlace and knotwork. In later centuries locals reused them as their own tombstones, carving their initials in the already ancient stones. 📷 Dr Tom Horne

With today's theft of Vix torc, here's what has been taken... The torc was found as part of a burial & placed around neck of the interred. Despite its size, it weighs only 480g (less that half the weight of the Snettisham Great torc). It is STUNNING. #Archaeology #Gold #Torcs 🏺 1/2
