Stop calling people who wear masks and take Covid precautions the “forever covid” crowd. We’re literally the only ones trying to eliminate the virus. It’s not gone. It’s not over. It’s still disabling. People who deny this reality are the “forever COVID” crowd.

We could see four parties within the margin of error sooner rather than later at this rate. Chaos without Ed Miliband (and ironically would probably be catalysed by Burnham ignoring Ed Miliband and endorsing North Sea drilling)

Wouldn't go as far as "love," but I have far more time for Westlife than I feel I have any right to; they may be utterly formulaic but it's a formula for sensory comfort and I have far more use for that than I do for being "cool"

I think there are arguments on both sides about harm reduction voting and the lesser of two evils and so on. I also think that *if you attack a member of a persecuted minority for disagreeing with you on that -- either way -- when it comes to persecution of the group they're in* you're despicable.

When we talk about the costs that LLMs impose on society we should not forget the fact that nothing works anymore because everyone is so scared of getting their shit scraped. I can't even use google scholar from my university or starlink because they send too much traffic.

also broadly true for a lot of cases of oppressor vs oppressed, imperialist vs imperialized, fascists vs perceived minorities, etc. some fights can only be safely ended unilaterally by one side because the alternative is complete subjugation or extermination of the other

100%. For those unfamiliar, Van Halen had a line in their rider that essentially said “no brown M&Ms.” It was a way to see if the promoter had actually read the contract. They had a shitload of gear to tour with, so if they’re skipping one thing, it’s guaranteed they’re skipping something essential.

The image is of a four panel comic.
In the first panel we see a dragon sitting on a pile of treasure. A speech bubble pointing off panel reads, “Dragon, why do you have all this treasure?”
In the second panel we zoom in on the dragons face. He simply says “shiny”.
In the third panel we pan to the left and see that there is a crow standing next to the dragon on the treasure.
In the fourth panel we zoom in on the crows face. He says “hell yeah”.

A3: Definitely with the sound sensitivity, I'm not sure how separable those are. But there's a multi-layered connection with my OCD-flavoured anxiety too; e.g. I'm a composer who is drawn to low and/or soft treble voice singing and have crushing concern loops over fear of misinterpretation #AutChat

Very interesting post about compromise creep from a thread over on Mastodon about businesses quietly returning to Twitter. Source: bit.ly/4c6g0eV
Post by L Rhodes @lrhodes@merveilles.town on Mastodon

Compromise creep explains a lot. You're trying out this new technology when you find out that its really bad for the environment, so you back off. But then there's a deluge of articles saying it's not so bad for the environment. You're not sure what to think, but maybe it's not that harmful to use it every here and there. So you compromise, but only a little. Then it turns out that the technology is exploiting writers and artists. That's bad, but also, you're finding the tech really useful, and maybe the idea of intellectual property is changing, so its not much of a compromise to keep going. Oh, yeah, and the technology also aids genocide. You don't condone that, but that's not what you're using it for, So... Bit by bit, you compromise on SO many of the ideals and ethics that you endorse that doing business on the marketplace of fascist ideas isn't THAT big of a compromise.
