I never enjoy the winter as much as I keep thinking I'm going to when the Evil Daystar is raging like it has the last couple of years 😂 At least cold is a problem with Stimmy Solutions. The problem is that sometimes you do have to leave the Giles Corey Snug Vortex...

My immediate reaction to reading this was that having a family evidently bought up in the body-policing world of ballet must not have helped with the dysphoria from body changes :/

Sometimes, the answer to "why have the bats gone cold?" is "they've turned into a different kind of bat" 🦇

I appreciate them too but they could get exhausting

The only real thing Labour can take away from this is "we can still hold these seats right now" and another two years of enacting Tory policy could very easily change that equation again

Remember everyone to a lot of people communism just means 'thing i don't like' and it always has.

That's what I meant, that I'd have expected an even lower pressure reading than 837 hPa given that 6,000ft is less than that (and if I've interpreted flight tracking information correctly, you weren't even on one of the newer planes that manage that)

110

David Howl @shinydh.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

That tracks with how cabin pressurisation is required to maintain an effective altitude of at most 8,000ft and newer long-haul planes typically bring that down to around 6,000ft. If anything I'm surprised it wasn't still lower (6,000ft is ~810 hPa)

I feel similarly and for the most part feel the best thing about my gender is the invisibility cloak it provides. That, and feeling able to do nocturnal errands without nearly the same safety worries I'd have otherwise

David Howl @shinydh.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

So possibly I am demigender like my partner, but it's not felt at all urgent to adopt, and my "women's clothing" has overwhelmingly been gender-neutral items with softer fabric than the men's equivalents (including jeans recommended to me by at least one transmasc autistic friend)

010

David Howl @shinydh.bsky.social · 08/10/2026

I have felt somewhat like this, but then my partner kept having to check their gender every few months before ultimately asserting that might possibly mean they were some form of cisn't I feel like my own personal experience is that my gender and (especially) sexuality are secondary to my autism

I am in a similar position, I think; when my anxiety disorder was diagnosed, an accompanying OCD diagnosis was specifically neither given nor ruled out, and if I do have it then scrupulosity is my theme too I sometimes think of it as "OCD-flavoured anxiety"

I'm not a doctor but I am an autistic person; hadn't thought about it this way but many of us do tend towards disregard for externally imposed filters - like the NFL's expectations - and saying exactly what we mean. And fantasy would feel so much less chaotic if all RBs were this unfiltered 😂

The Qashqai was sold in Japan as the Dualis, and that name was also used in Australia apparently out of concerns it'd be referred to as the "cash cow" - something that happened anyway after its success made it just that 😂

David Howl @shinydh.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

The big tell is it being taller in general and at the front in particular, along with the plastic cladding. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the first-generation Qashqai and the (station wagon version of) the car it functionally replaced www.carsized.com/en/cars/comp...

Nissan Primera Estate 2001-2008 vs. Nissan Qashqai SUV 2006-2010. Compare car dimensions (length, width and height) vs. street perspective.

100

David Howl @shinydh.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

To make it even more confusing, the lines between some of these categories have been quite deliberately blurred by many manufacturers! Certainly here the "crossover" - a hatchback with SUV styling - is the standard new car, especially for EVs where the extra height makes room for the battery pack

A blue Nissan Qashqai - the ur-example of the "crossover" SUV. It has chonky black plastic side bumpers and is taller than the hatchbacks that its buyers would have chosen 20 years ago, though is still compact by North American standards at least (and indeed at most).

(Though Al Jazeera was unable to independently verify the claim that there is actually an agreement that only pilots from countries with diplomatic relations with Israel - which Oman doesn't - can land there. As is so often the case, things get more confusing the more you find out!)

David Howl @shinydh.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

The thing that most confuses me about this is that an Omani copilot was able to fly this route in the first place, contrary to Israeli policy. That feels like the biggest question to answer, because it's the one thing that clearly shouldn't have been able to happen that everything else follows from.
