This is what's been so jarring about the evolution of any kind of "verbal commands" technology. It was advertised as being able to parse our sentences, but really ended up training US how to speak to IT. Which completely breaks when they change the programming and we start all over again.

A thing I learned about Meta when I was trying to understand how their statements relate to their actions a few years ago is that *they just tell absolutely indefensible lies* and journalists almost always let them. They believed no one would ever punish them for it in any way that matters.

This council must lack object permanence or something. If they wanted these programs to get long-term funding, they had ample opportunity LAST YEAR to make tough decisions to come up with the extra ongoing money continuing them will cost. They chose one-time funds instead.

When “frontier” started getting deployed in context of AI, I thought “Were there no humanities majors in the room?” Maybe some marketing team thought it romantically evoked pushing boundaries/space exploration. Hyperscalers need $308bn of annual ai revenue - around the revenue of Microsoft - for 10% return on 2026 and 2027 capex. Could be more with cost of debt.

I will add that I don't think slavery was in decline. Prices for enslaved people were at a record high in 1860. As Ta-Nehisi Coates correctly noted, enslaved people were the most valuable asset in the U.S. in 1860. They represented more capital than was invested in all RRs & factories nationwide.
