not that you should expect anything more than rank idiocy from this pair of racists, but the idea that whiteness means a "high trust" society of "social cohesion" is some of the stupidest shit i have ever heard. these people live in a fantasy land that you could dispel by simply opening a book.

Absolutely scorching endorsement, bringing serious heat for Weiner and against Chan, but a blast furnace at Pelosi for her role in this race and her true reasons for it. Never read an editorial this heated in Chron www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/edit...

Endorsement: Who should replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress? It’s not even a choice
OPINION: The most intriguing thing about the race between Scott Wiener and Connie Chan to fill Nancy Pelosi’s House seat is that it has become a race at all, the editorial board writes.

Cities are living things and neighborhoods change as newcomers leave their mark. This is okay, even if it is often uncomfortable. The best thing we can do is build a lot of new homes so that new people can move in without displacing long time residents.

I live in a 120+ year old building. It’s missing basic amenities many folks take for granted that have come along since then. The “charm” of extremely old housing stock comes with a lot of costs! www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...
Furthermore, in San Francisco, having tons of pre-World War II buildings isn't much of a rarity. Citywide, a whopping 45% of homes have been standing since then — by far the highest share of any California city with at least 500,000 people. It's also on par with Boston's 47%, the highest of large cities in the U.S., the Chronicle found.

I could not disagree more strongly with this approach. Landmarking bars, clubs, dance studios, and poets’ homes locks the city in amber and blocks new housing, which makes it impossible for non-rich future young people to move to New York and contribute to the culture. Just lay a plaque!

Berman's project has been remarkably successful over the last quarter-century. By the start of 2002, when Berman started at Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, there were only 86 historic districts in the city; 12 years later, there were
131. With so many of the buildings downtown with any kind of historic architectural significance already under landmark protections, Berman has shifted his focus to preserving properties with some kind of social importance. He has successfully fought for the landmarking of the Stonewall Inn, for example, as well as the legendary Pyramid Club in the East Village, and his group is working to landmark the homes of the poet and publisher Steve Cannon and sites downtown connected to Anais Nin, Audre Lorde, Patti Smith, Martha Graham, and others.CURBED

These kinds of sites, he told me, are "an important part of what makes New York interesting and wonderful. I also think that we learn from our history, and I think that if there's anything that we've seen in the last couple of years, it's that if we don't understand our history, we make terrible mistakes. We don't understand how we got to where we are today. We don't understand what it took to get there. A lot of rights that we take for granted, people had to fight very hard for. They were not always a given. So I think having an understanding and a respect for history is an incredibly important element of a healthy present and future."

The $580 million short oil bet was the smaller of the two insider trades. The larger one, placed at the exact same time (6:49-6:50am), was between $1.4-$1.9 billion to go long S&P 500 e-Mini futures. Over $2 billion in Trump traitor trades, all wildly profitable 15 minutes later after Trump's post.
graph of S&P futures Monday morning, visible spike in volume and upward movement in price (because the volume of the order compared to normal pre-market liquidity was so great it moved the market price) at 6:49-6:50

America has a housing shortage. Every single housing proposal you see that is not "build more housing" will have the primary effect of pushing up the prices of existing housing, and is therefore, in reality, a plan to enrich current homeowners. In conclusion, build more housing.
