SAL just wants itself and Dr. Chandra to get more information about HAL so they can solve the anomalies, and is open to having its same higher functions disconnected as was done to HAL to see what happens when it's reconnected and turns back on www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2E7...

Props to SAL 9000 for being the most strictly-business "artificial intelligence" computer program; just hanging out in a big filing cabinet in Dr. Chandra's cool university office in Urbana; not being erratic or starting any nonsense; SAL checked HAL's false AE-35 failure warning and was like "No"
Still frame, "2010: The Year We Make Contact". Dr. Chandra scans his handprint for entry into the fictional University of Chicago Computer Lab. The computer lab looks like a lobby and waiting room for a serious hospital where someone is waiting to find out test results about whether they're going to have to see the good kind of blood doctor or the really bad kind of blood doctor. It looks like a serious place.Still frame, "2010: The Year We Make Contact". In Dr. Chandra's university office, the door is closed, with Chandra's desk and desktop computer monitor to the left, Chandra standing in the middle, and typing something into SAL 9000's large, filing cabinet-like console on the right. SAL's blue eye-camera can be indirectly seen.

I wish "AI" had turned out not like what it is, and not like HAL 9000's creepy red murder eye, but like this friendly blue counterpart SAL 9000 at a university on Earth who just wanted to help them figure out what had happened to the Discovery

The fundraising texts you delete are working on someone. It’s infuriating and heartbreaking. An 85yo in Ohio gave more than double the value of his home. A 91yo in an Indianapolis senior facility gave 25K times. The DCCC/DSCC don’t just tolerate the spammers who exploit seniors. They take part.

‘A tax on being thin’: only high earners make overall savings on food bills from weight-loss drugs
Users need discretionary income of nearly £100,000 a year to make savings on their grocery spend after paying £1,200 for GLP-1s, analysis finds The high cost of weight-loss medication is a “regressive tax on being thin” because the outlay outweighs any saving on food costs for all but the highest earners. Someone needs to have discretionary income of nearly £100,000 a year to actually save money after covering the £1,200 annual cost of GLP-1 medication, according to an analysis by the consultancy Baringa. Iran does not think the way you do. When they say they want to kill Trump, they mean it. Trump had the supreme leader and much of his surrounding family killed. That is the equivalent of a mob hit, but in the context of international relations. The only punishment in Iran for that is death.

This is a core theme you deal with as a fact checker. When tracing a fact back to it’s original source you see how *incredibly common* it is for stuff to be made up by a single source and then get repeated enough times by other sources that frequency of repetition convinces everyone it’s true.
