I didn’t realize that the “hi hungry, I’m dad” dad joke has a deeper meaning, which is “please politely ask me for what you actually want instead of just announcing a problem to me.” “Dad, I’m hungry.” “Hi hungry, I’m Dad.” “🙄 Could you please make me something to eat?” “And how hard was that??”

I got permission to share this, and I'm extremely grateful for that. The Onion got this letter from one of our subscribers in Alaska. She works with dementia patients and decided to leave a copy in the car for each one. This email made my year. Read it and you'll see what I mean. People are good.

I work as an elder and hospice caregiver, which I am oddly passionate about. I can love on them shamelessly and no one complains about my codependence. It's a win-win situation.

Many of my caregiving colleagues complain about the repetitive questions and, sometimes reactions, of the elderly, especially when those patients happen to read the newspaper, especially with the current downward spiral of our country — as if these people haven't lived through enough horror...

I love my dementia peeps, but sometimes wonder if there's a Guinness Book World Record for how many times an hour a dementia patient can repeat the same question — it's got to be in the hundreds. At least with small children, they ask different questions. Dementia patients will get stuck on one short question and ask it until you can interrupt their train(carousel) of thought and successfully redirect their attention. That carousel is pretty manic sometimes.

A couple days ago, I picked up my mail from the post office and drove over to the nursing home to take (let's call her "Miss Daisy") Miss Daisy out for a drive. Before we took off on our road trip, to the end of The Road and back, in our landlocked little town (Juneau, Alaska), I set my copy of The Onion down in front of her.

Over our two-hour excursion, tiny Miss Daisy read that front page at least a dozen times and each time she would snicker, giggle, and guffaw, then put it down on the dash board and, a minute later, discover it anew. I think it was the best afternoon of my life. We don't often hear them laugh and when they do, it's the sweetest thing you've ever heard.

...

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for the really important work all of you do. You make the world a better place.

If you do a close read not only of the Bible but the archeology, it starts to look like the Israelites, & all but a couple of Judean kings, worshipped a goddess for pretty much the whole First Temple era. The implications of this are... far ranging-- & her name might not be what we've believed.

An important life skill to develop is the ability to not have an opinion on a thing. This is because there are many things which it is not necessary for you to have an opinion on. A related skill is recognizing that the list of things on which an opinion is required is different for everyone.

Yikes! And this is why you don't arrest judges❗️👀 Judge Dugan uses the Trump immunity case to argue that her indictment should be dismissed - since her actions fall under "official acts" in her own courtroom. Here are snapshots from page 1 & 3 of her Motion To Dismiss.
DEFENDANT'S MOTION TO DISMISS
Hon. Hannah C. Dugan moves for an order dismissing the indictment. This is no ordinary criminal case, and Dugan is no ordinary criminal defendant.

Dugan is a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge. She was arrested and indicted for actions allegedly taken in and in the immediate vicinity of her courtroom, involving a person appearing before her as a party. The government's prosecution of Judge Dugan is virtually unprecedented and entirely unconstitutional --it violates the Tenth Amendment and fundamental principles of federalism and comity reflected in that amendment and in the very structure of the United States Constitution.
The problems with this prosecution are legion, but most immediately, the government cannot prosecute Judge Dugan because she is entitled to judicial immunity for her official acts. Immunity is not a defense to the prosecution to be determined later by a jury or court; it is an absolute bar to the prosecution at the outset. See Trump v. United States, 608 U.S.593, 630 (2024).

3. Even if (contrary to what the trial evidence would show) Judge Dugan took the actions the complaint alleges, these plainly were judicial acts for which she has absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. Judges are empowered to maintain control over their courtrooms specifically and the courthouse generally. Stevens v. Osuna, 877 F.3d 1293, 1305 (11th Cir. 2017). "[TJhe issuance of an order removing persons from the, courthouse in the interest of maintaining such control is an ordinary function performed by judges[.]" Id,
4. Judge Dugan's subjective motivations are irrelevant to immunity. "Judges are entitled to absolute immunity for their judicial acts, without regard to the motive with which those acts are allegedly performed." Id.; accord Trump v. United States, 603 U.S. at 618 ("In dividing official from unofficial conduct, courts may not inquire into the president's motives.)
