News and Times to Give World Series Play by Play On Playograph Board, by Radio and by Telephone

The most thoro baseball information service ever given will be the treat of *The Rocky Mountain News* and *The Denver Times* during the 1926 world series games. When the pitcher steps into the box and heaves the first ball of the series Saturday you are asked to "tune in" by radio, come to *The News-Times* offices, or telephone these newspapers for the latest and fullest information. Remember, the games will start at 11:30 o'clock, Denver time, while the teams play in New York, but when they move to St. Louis, the time will be 12:30 o'clock, Denver time.

### See the Playograph

To get a visual, first-hand account, come to the business offices of *The News* and *The Times*, Seventeenth and Glenarm, and see the games on *The News-Times* Playograph just as it is played on the Yanks' field in New York. Every little detail will be shown just as quickly as the radio and telegraph wires can carry the details to Denver. Play-by-play, balls, strikes, fouls, hits, sacrifice hits, putouts, will be shown.

It's just like having a seat in the stands to watch the plays as they appear on the Playograph.

### Hear It on Radio

Another of the big treats for the baseball fans will be the special radio service when KOA, Rocky mountain broadcasting station for the Western Electric company, will broadcast complete details of the game with the co-operation of *The News* and *The Times*. This service is especially for those who live outside of Denver or who are unable to visit the Playograph at the business offices of the newspapers. Tune in fifteen minutes before game time to get all the preliminary account.

NEW YORK, Sept. 26—(AP)—Robert Oscar Anderson, known as “Smiling Bob, the bandit,” killed himself with illuminating gas yesterday in the Eastern penitentiary where he was serving a sentence of 30 to 60 years. He was found dead in the prison print shop.

On a small pad found with his body, Anderson had written:

“Get the boys together and have them send me some flowers. Get the band to play me a tune. Make it snappy.”

Anderson was employed in the prison print shop as a linotype operator.

Anderson was sentenced last March. He had a brief criminal career during which he lived in an apartment house, passed as highly paid young writer, dressed well and stole enough to keep him in the luxurious life he had chosen.

Binghamton, Sept. 25.—Disappointed and broken-hearted by the collapse of a love affair, Miss Esther Woodruff, 16, Binghamton schoolgirl, is in the City Hospital tonight, with physicians attempting to save her life against her will.

She swallowed a vial of poison in the Hills, McLean & Haskins department store early this afternoon and dropped, unconscious, to the floor under the feet of a Saturday-afternoon crowd of shoppers.

In a pocket of her coat, addressed to "Anyone Who Finds Me," was a note directing that, if alive, she be taken to the City Hospital, and, if dead, that Dick Talbott of 31 Pennsylvania Avenue be notified.

London, Sept. 25 (AP)—Experienced polar hunters doff their hats to Miss Louise A. Boyd of San Rafael, Cal., who has returned to London after a six weeks' trip into the Arctic.

To Miss Boyd belongs the distinction of having been the first woman to set foot upon desolate Franz Josef land. With Miss Boyd were Miss Janet Coleman of San Francisco and Count and Countess Rivadavia, friends of King Alfonso of Spain.

From the 80th degree northern latitude Miss Boyd returned with the pelts of 29 polar bears, six of which she shot in one day.

Major Forms of Cancer, Due to Chronic Irritation, Preventable Expert Declares LAKE MOHONK, N. Y., Sept. 22.—(AP)—The major forms of cancer are due to chronic irritation and are therefore preventable, said Dr. James Ewing, professor of Pathology at the Cornell University Medical school, in a paper tonight before the international cancer control symposium here. Cancers of the mouth, lips, tongue and tonsil, he asserted, are due in large measure to bad teeth, tobacco and syphilis, or to such irritants as poorly made dental plates, while gastric cancer is traceable to "habitual abuse of the stomach." Mammary cancer, Dr. Ewing affirmed, is frequently caused by early and abrupt weaning. "Since the major forms of cancer are largely the result of human habits and bad habits," Dr. Ewing said, "a certain intelligent reformation of the habits of the race must be accomplished before cancer prevention can show very tangible results. There is all the more need of approaching the subject with a systematic program."

Police headquarters was notified and officers hurried to the scene. They found that a number of boys had tied a rope to the bell and were pulling on it about a block away. Police are investigating the mysterious poisoning of three members of the family of Oliver Perry Hines, 59 years old, 2350 Curtis street, and a boarder at the Hines’ home. Mr. Hines, his daughter, Sophie May Sheldon, 24, his grandson, William O. Henry, 4, and Elvin Forsythe became mysteriously ill yesterday. Mrs. Hines, the only member of the family to escape, declared last night that she believed the family had been poisoned by an enemy.

Mr. Hines and his daughter and Forsythe were removed to the general hospital. The boy, who is Mrs. Sheldon’s son by a former marriage, is being treated at the family home by private physicians.

According to Mrs. Hines, when the family returned from an automobile ride Sunday afternoon they found the front door had been forced open. Nothing was missing, however. At noon the family ate meat which had been left on a stove and all ate again of the meat except Mrs. Hines at dinner Sunday night. Police took the meat to police headquarters and will analyze it this morning.

According to Detectives Harry Lane and Walter Heath, the meat may have been poisoned Sunday afternoon during the absence of the family. They are investigating on this theory, they declared, pending an analysis of the meat.

Police Surgeon Bert Menser examined the four poisoned persons early last night and removed them to the general hospital. He declared the poison acted as ptomaine poisoning and his diagnosis was borne out by hospital authorities.

Mrs. Hines declared last night that she was at a loss to explain the mysterious illness of the other members of her family in case they had been intentionally poisoned. The family has no enemies, she said.

Mrs. Sheldon was separated from her husband a few weeks ago.

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 19.—(By Associated Press.)—Rather than confess that he had lied to her about his savings, Knuth Nicholson, 20 years old, early today shot and killed his fiancee, Grace Stoddard, 19, as she slept in the front seat of his automobile on a lonely road near the village of Prospect, near here.

Nicholson put the dead girl in the rear seat and drove to Milwaukee. He walked into the sheriff's office and calmly informed officers of his deed.
