I’ve been peeking over at Twitter a bit lately out of morbid curiosity about what goes on there in the year 2026. After all, high-profile media figures like Casey Newtown have recently said that Twitter is where the real “conversation” is happening, and I idly wondered if I was depriving myself of information by continuing my more than three year hiatus. After scrolling the “For you” tab this morning for just a few minutes, I felt the matter binding my brain begin to dissolve. That feeling helped explain how people who spend all their waking hours there could believe a story so idiotic could sink a successful senate campaign. While people who insist on using X soak in the stupid, a whole world exists outside to debunk their delusions by contrast.

The action of Judy Heumann and other members of DIA led to one of the most impacting images of my childhood - a little girl my age DRAGGING herself up the Capitol steps in Washington to force an entire country to acknowledge the absolute need for the ADA. 6 months later it was signed into law.
8 year old Jennifer Keelan in 1990 crawling up the steps of the US Capitol with a copy of the Declaration of Independence rolled up in her back pocket. This was a protest designed to bring attention to the Americans With Disabilities Act

For lapses in communication from the defense, is it due more to the initial call or on changes once offense lines up/goes in motion?

"Bessent enjoys cultivating a tough-guy image," the article says. But treating those over whom you have power like shit doesn't make you tough, it just makes you an asshole. Trump's "tough guys" are all like this - whiny toddlers with no self-control who mistake cruelty for strength.

The Cornell community has floated abolishing the Cornell Police Department. We should take it seriously, especially if you think that survivors should have the option of going to the police instead of their schools. I feel strongly about this too, because something people don't understand is that universities at this point are essentially total institutions. For a lot of students, their schools are not just schools.
They're their landlords, their employers, their source of health care, their gym, their coffee shop, the arena where they attend concerts. It leaves survivors with almost no real options. If you can't trust your school and your school systematically discriminates against sexual-assault survivors, where is left for you to go?

Many good points captures the reality out there. This I liked particularly: «the problem is that AI agents have neither the broad general knowledge of an experienced developer nor the job-specific context of a longtime employee.» Which seems to be obvious to everyone except AI tech billionaires.

Reading has become an endangered species. Which is half the problem with American political life. Maybe more than half. If you can't read, you can't think. Then you can fall for anything. The idea, for instance, that the truth is fake news.

The thing liberals fundamentally don't understand is that trans people are losing rights they already had. We're not asking for more, we're asking not to lose what we already had for decades. Most sports leagues and the Olympics had inclusion criteria for decades without issue.
Screenshot of an X (formerly Twitter) exchange discussing political pragmatism and the Overton window.
The initial post by onion person (@CantEverDie) reads:
> "doesn't matter, this is about what the right is able to push with the overton window. first its democrats needing to disavow trans women in sports to get elected, next it'll be agreeing to ban access to HRT to get elected. we've seen how this plays out"
>
A reply from Nick Pappas (@NickAPappas) reads:
> "Are you insane? The Overton window didn’t even include this discussion until recently. The public has never been in favor of desegregating the sports by sex.
> Personally I’m glad Barack Obama ran against gay marriage in 2008. Not because that was the right position, or one he even actually held, but because he knew the public wasn’t with him on it. If he hadn’t won he wouldn’t have been able to appoint 2 of the justices who ultimately voted in the majority for Obergefell.
> Lincoln in 1860 didn’t even run on abolishing slavery! He just wanted to stop its expansion. And thankfully he did that and won because a more extreme and morally correct position would have lost. As a result he was able to win the Civil War and push through the 13 amendment.
> Political practicality is the entire history of progress in America. There’s no other way."
