Reading has become an endangered species. Which is half the problem with American political life. Maybe more than half. If you can't read, you can't think. Then you can fall for anything. The idea, for instance, that the truth is fake news.

I think many know what they call fake news is true. As you said they don't think well. They feel fear, can't/won't control that feeling, and it drives them to do ... that; denying what they know to be true. Just a thought, still wondering about the why part of what they do.

I've been saying Americans are getting dumber and dumber since I was a teen and I'm 64 now, and we're now seeing the results. I've been an avid reader of everything, including the labels on condiment bottles, ever since I could read at the age of 5.

I'm GenX, but I started with your books when I was really young. The ones I have the strongest memories of from my youth are The Stand, Firestater, the first few Dark Tower books, Pet Sematary, The Talisman, The Dark Half, Eyes of the Dragon, Needful Things, Insomnia, and Misery.

Thank god my mom and dad instilled reading in us. I read a book for at least 2 hrs every night. And have read a ton of Stephan King as well.And then I read news etc during the day. Curiosity is just gone in this country. Ignorance is king, sad

A fact that isn't talked about often enough. Why is that? It's a sad commentary on those who've been charged with teaching our children, have made 'reading' secondary in our educational system. If one cannot read or 'comprehend', the future will be quite bleak (to say the least).

Studies have found that "social media" is causing decreased attention spans, and decline in traditional reading. Well, in Canada, we have health warnings on packets of cigarettes. Same should be done for social media. "Warning! This app will lower your IQ, and attention span!"

I have to wonder if it's more than just reading. I recently tried reading an eBook suggested to me, and I could not help but be astounded by the bad grammar. If someone writes, 'he got off the horse and dropped the reigns' - I have to wonder what is in the writer's mind.
