I'm gonna be stepping away from Bluesky because it's just incredibly dead on my end and I find it depressing to get literally no interaction on the regular. I'll check in here and there in case anyone I talk to on here DMs me. If there are any active editing groups on Slack, please let me know!

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

Got a new Dell Laptop at work & it comes with a COPILOT KEY next to the right Alt button. I thought OK, I can surely disable this key or remap it to Ctrl. Oh my friends, no. I was foolish. Searching for help came across this, Dell agents aren't even allowed to discuss remapping the copilot key.
The new keyboard layout using the Microsoft Copilot key are the standard going forward for all models released in
2024 and after.

Dell policy prohibits Dell support agents from discussing remapping the Microsoft Copilot key.

This Dell article states in blue =

Note: Beginning in spring 2024, new Windows 11 devices ship with a new keyboard layout and a dedicated key to launch
Microsoft Copilot in Windows. The key replaces the menu key next to the right Alt key. The key position can vary on
some regional layouts.

Please see this FAQ for the same details. Microsoft requires the CoPilot key as part of their Al PC initiative.

I have a genAI non-use statement on my site+ make point of making this clear for new clients I cannot state strongly enough how much this benefits me in finding work, and specifically finding GOOD work All the best outlets love it, and all the worst outlets hate it www.cityam.com/there-should...
I currently write for outlets like Crikey and RenewEconomy, and have previously contributed to outlets like Foreign Policy, The New Republic, The Age and the Guardian.

For all of my work, I don’t use generative tools for text, images or videos, or as a reference point or for knowledge retrieval, due to the stack of ethical, environmental and inaccuracy issues that plague them.

I contribute to The Australia Institute as a Senior Research Associate, alongside working with various Europe-based NGOs, contributing to and sharing their analytical work on climate and energy.

I am a committee member for Comms Declare, a brilliant organisation that is fighting hard to ensure PR and marketing aren’t used to worsen the climate crisis or expand fossil fuels. Thursday 04 June 2026 5:01 am | Updated: Wednesday 03 June 2026 4:14 pm
There should have been an op-ed here but you filed AI slop

By:Anna Moloney

Deputy Comment and Features Editor

Add as a preferredCity AM’s inbox is drowning in AI-written pitches. Anna Moloney, who now spends her days copy and pasting them into detection software, has had enough

In this slot there should have been an op-ed. A punchy one from a high-flying lawyer on the ever raging debate around inheritance tax, perfectly attuned to the interests of City AM readers. However, as is now happening at an alarming regularity, what said lawyer filed was not an insightful piece drawing on their many years of experience and expertise, but 600 words of AI-generated slop.

I will not name, but I will shame.

Unfortunately, this is no longer a rare occurrence. In the last few weeks, running copy filed by those I thought were reputable contacts through AI detection software has become a core, and unloved, part of my job. This week alone, I have gone back to three ‘writers’ asking why their copy has been flagged as 100 per cent AI-generated with high confidence, per our software’s rating. Some feign shock – “how strange!” – though most, I’ve been surprised, fess up immediately, usually with caveats they think absolve them.

They “just” used it to edit down a piece to the word count. They “only” used it to “refine” a draft. They “don’t know” if their client used AI to write the piece, but “rest assured” they edited it afterwards. In one case, I received a follow up, saying they were very disappointed to see the piece hadn’t run, and that “it would be a shame for it to go to waste”.

Eek! Earlier this year I worked on a trade nonfic title that transcribed original sources using the long S with Fs. As copyeditor, I told the editors about the long S and recommended, you know, transcribing it correctly and all that. You will *never* hear about this because I did my job correctly.

Subsidized subscriptions were a scam - one of many used by the AI industry. LLM users are victims of a con, misled about the actual costs of AI, all while being conditioned to believe that AI was getting cheaper. It's only ever got more expensive. www.wheresyoured.at/ai-doesnt-have-roi/
Four years and a trillion dollars in, AI is more expensive, its companies more cash-intensive, its products just as unreliable, and its boosters more desperate than ever to make you ignore reality as a means of empowering one of a few ultra-rich oafs. Products from OpenAI and Anthropic are built to ingratiate and coddle losers while creating work-shaped outputs that are good enough to impress braindead executives, imbeciles and middle management hall monitors that don’t do any real work, and the reason it’s worked this long is that both companies intentionally misled everybody about how much the real costs were.

I must repeat myself: AI is more expensive today than it was three years ago, and it is not getting cheaper. Sam Altman’s comments about “intelligence too cheap to meter” were lies. NVIDIA’s Blackwell GPUs didn’t make it cheaper, and its Vera Rubin GPUs won’t either. Google’s TPUs won’t do it, Amazon’s Trainium or Inferentia chips won’t do it, Vera Rubin CPUs won’t do it, OpenAI’s chips won’t do it, and no, DeepSeek won’t do it either.

People chose — and still choose — to believe that AI would get cheaper because they think things got cheaper over time in the past, which is sort of true but not remotely similar in any way, because the cost of running and training AI models comes from using the hardware as well as its upfront cost. Large Language Models require expensive GPUs thanks to their reliance on power-intensive parallel processing, and larger, more-complex models in turn require more GPUs to both train and run inference with.

And three generations in, NVIDIA GPUs don’t appear to be bringing the cost down at all, which heavily-suggests that the inherent business model of generative AI is broken.

Free newsletter: The dawn of token-based-billing has shown that generative AI doesn’t have a return on investment. It's too unpredictable, too unreliable, you can't easily measure the cost of tasks, and organizations are already pulling back. www.wheresyoured.at/ai-doesnt-have-roi/

remember how Uber and DoorDash used to be cheap af? and now they're expensive af? that's what's happening w/ AI. that's why making AI an integral part of your editorial workflow is a bad idea—once companies start jacking up the price of your Claude sub to what it actually costs them, you're fucked.
