The universities reacted as they did because they were eager for a chance to discipline their student bodies and crack down on free speech they disagreed with, as Columbia's active collaboration with the Trump regime illustrates. Popular vote margin is meaningless and has no impact on that motive.

The prime minister "condemns the phrase "police violence"" as the police attacks young people violently across France It's a wonder why so many people, young or not, feel such a disconnect with those who govern them... The issue is not "populism" or "polarisation", it's mainstream authoritarianism

"mainstream governments face a spiralling challenge. When an entire generation concludes that society’s existing frameworks guarantee them neither affordable homes nor functioning schools, political consent starts to evaporate and Europe’s establishment parties risk losing their legitimacy."

In both France and Spain, ruling parties must prove they can give young protesters hope
Demonstrations over housing rights and crumbling schools are a sign the younger generation is withdrawing political consent

the nation-state is not the default organizational structure, it was a predominantly 18th-20th century construction which existed in practice *almost* exclusively in europe and required a couple hundred years of ethnic cleansing, genocide, and forced religious conversion to build

No true-born Marylander can say their heart doesn't swell with pride at the mention of the Glenn L. Martin Company. The Middle River plant was a sprawling monument to industrial prowess. So many qualified workers were needed that they poached high school students directly from Baltimore Polytechnic

This is meant to be a provocation, but it show a major generational shift in the German far right - during the Cold War, the far right followed the expellee lobby and talked about 1937 borders (i.e reclaiming East Prussia and Silesia from the USSR and Poland but pre Anschluss of Austria)

Spot-on. Movie about how the tv is evil and makes everyone who interacts with it evil, but nothing really novel there. Felt like it was setting up to say something about what this stuff actually does to people's brains and then just didn't.

For sure, like many people I started out as a kid mostly interested in tanks and airplanes but, as they say, in the end it always comes down to the infantryman and his rifle. Interesting stories there and, as you know well, there's an entire organizational science at work too.
