but the narrative is essentially "brown people are bad/worse/more likely to stick around, isn't that bad too" tied to "europeans are great though because they all sod off", and neither of these are in support of migration, and especially settlement (for either cohort)

I have it on *excellent* authority that this semi-upright stone deep in the rainforest is almost certainly a Bronze Age standing stone, so possibly dating back to when the first tree clearances for farming began in this area, around 3,750 years ago. Now the rainforest is back.

This stamp was found in the early 19th century near the Roman settlement at Inveresk in East Lothian. Oculists were specialised eye doctors. The original stamp would have been used to seal jars or mark the blocks of eye-ointment before they became hard.

The 'high top' of our mountain commonage might be only 263m above sea level, but on a good day, it can feel like the top of the world. Just a shame that the crazy rich rainforest that would naturally be here is entirely missing, due to sheep. But it and other habitats could return, via rewilding.
