The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel is titled “things that are spooky”. We see a book of hexes, a skull, candles, a pentagram in blood, and vampire teeth. Pointing off panel we see a speech bubble that says “I love it”.
The second panel is titled “things that are cute”. We see a strawberry cake, a boba drink, a bunny plushie, and a cute notebook and pen. Again, we see a speech bubble pointing off panel that says “I love it”.
The third panel is titled “things that are spooky AND cute”. We see a row of cute decorative ghosts.
The fourth panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, completely freaking out at this combination.

I need you to understand how utterly unsurprising this is. On every level, this is an insight you would have never needed to share with me. This is a lie, and it's a lie they've been telling since the 1950s. They push the story that technology will give the white-collar populace 4 or even 3-day work weeks, but that never materializes. 5-day work weeks with exponentially greater output expectations does.

disingenuous and utterly misleading reporting by RPS here: Discord did not suffer any kind of breach this is a completely-unaffiliated-with-Discord service
Gaming chat app Discord has suffered another user data breach, with a suspected 1 million email addresses stolen alongside (potentially many more) user IDs and IP addresses. While Discord was not targeted directly, third party security service Double Counter have reported a "deliberate, multi-stage attack" wherein hackers spent nearly six hours poking around their infrastructure before the vulnerability was closed.

Double Counter essentially acts as a bouncer bot for Discord servers, promising to detect and block unsanctioned alt accounts and prevent hostile 'raids' by large groups of malicious users. While its efficacy in that mission is debated by Discord users, and the service has previously been accused of selling user data for revenue, the fact is that Double Counter can collect and store personal info of the users that visit its 'protected' servers. Info that, now, has been partly or entirely nicked by Internet miscreants.

By Double Counter’s own estimates, around 1 million user email addresses have been affected, with databases of Discord IDs, usernames, IP addresses, and even location info for up to 28 million users also "partly" copied by the hackers. Security breach trackers Have I Been Pwned further report that 275,000 of the pinched emails and usernames have since been posted publicly.

this all could have been avoided!
So, to sum up, an AI watermark appeared on art for the work of an anti-AI streamer in a pro-AI game, but it was not directly the fault of the pro-AI developer (though the developer absolutely should have caught this), nor was it the fault of the original logo artist, who did not use AI. Instead, a music distributor that does not appear to have qualms with AI failed to notify the streamer of AI usage on what is, at the end of the day, a simple embellishment of a preexisting logo. This resulted in days of grief and multiple headaches for those involved—all over something that could easily have been done by hand.

And, per usual with AI, the specific person or people who made these choices remain unidentified. Are they still employed? Will they face even slight consequences? Impossible to say. The takeaway: Just don’t use AI! Generally, yes, but especially with something like this, which in all other senses should have been so, so easy.

Bro... What the fuck is the dothacknetwork doing, supporting Generative AI? This is a comment on their video announcing/revealing the piney_apples decomp, which was coded using the Claude AI and is a buggy mess of a "decomp" of the .hack//IMOQ games.
Screenshot of a YouTube comment by user @TheSmilingOne7 tagged as being made "3 days ago":

"AI was the best thing that has happened to decomps / recomps since they started. It's so much faster to have a codebase to debug than having to create that base from scratch.

And is very fitting that the team probably used it in this project, like Aura "herself" bringing a gift to the players lmao"

The comment has 1 Like and was given a Heart reaction by the dothacknetwork's YouTube channel, revealing the comment was made on one of that channel's videos.

So, I uh started drawing up a crossover. Here's a one-page gag
Five-panel comic:
Panels 1-2: panning shot from left to right of Green Lantern Jon Stewart eating lunch in the Watchtower cafeteria. Across the table (panel 2), sits the Flash, Wally West. Between them, oddly enough, is a Robot Master, Quickman. He's just watching
Jon, talking to Wally: "I can't believe a kid like you had never played a Megaman game. I know I still fire up my copy of Megaman 2 on my days off. Even if I still can't get past those lasers without the Time Stopper."
Wally: "Listen GL, I was a Sonic kid because Genesis does what Nintendon't."
Panel 3: Batman approaches their table, holding a tray.
Batman: "I did a Buster-only speedrun for Gotham's All Games Done Quick."
Panel 4: the other three characters staring in shock
Panel 5: Closeup on Batman
Batman: "It was for charity."

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

1) This isn't about generating games or assets with AI, it's just about using automation tools for some processes like bug testing which isn't inherently bad 2) IGN should be embarrassed for this headline. It doesn't say "AI generation" as in generative AI, it's 世代, "generation" as in "time period"

See, this is one of those things where any argument about the practical uses of AI tends to be obscured. You know, because one of its biggest proponents is fighting really hard to make sure it can generate CSAM & revenge porn and states can't stop it. That might be why it has such a negative view.

A comic about feeling doomed. Bex is lay on the floor with her head down. She says, "It's too late for me... I fucked everything up... I took too long..." She suddenly lifts her head and says, "then again, I'm always late..." Sitting up, she says, "And it's usually fine..." Finally standing on her feet, she says, "So why am I worrying about it?"

They can't lie about this either and once their lies continue to not work, they'll pivot to "oh get over it" which also doesn't work. This is also why "the economy is actually doing great" is a terrible thing to tell people who are concerned about the cost of eggs. Just food for thought.

Kiki is standing in a messy kitchen with a plunger in one hand and a stuffed crocodile in the other. She looks deflated, saying "Why did I come to the kitchen with a plunger and a croc- no you know what I don't care."Kiki is drawn in a more detailed, black and white style, looking pretty rough and tired. Text says "ADHD isn't funny and I'm an adult and I just want to get things done. I'm tired."

we're trying something
To begin, we are still, first and foremost, a subscription-based business. We always will be. Loading websites with ads and other intrusive nonsense doesn’t work anymore, to the extent that it ever did. Social media now rules that arena, and there’s no going back. Also, we want Aftermath to be slick, clean, and fast. That’s part of the appeal, and we’re well aware.

But money is tough to come by these days, especially as many regular people find themselves beset on all sides by economic hardship. Ads, we’ve learned via conversations with peers at other independent sites like 404 and Defector, can help supplement income and smooth over annual rough patches (seasonal subscription downturns, etc). In an ideal world, that bit of extra money will also bring us closer to hiring additional staff and growing Aftermath into something bigger and bolder.

Now to put it on concrete terms: We’re copying 404. They display a few ads on the version of their site that non-subscribers see—and no more. (You can go over there and look right now if you want an example.) We’re gonna do that. We do not plan to increase the ad load or push programmatic ads on subscribers; they’re already doing their part. As for when this will occur, we’re still getting it set up, so we don’t have an exact date yet. But we’re working with the same partners as 404. Moreover, they’ve assured us that, should an ad about AI or some other dumb bullshit pop up, we can have them zap it. This approach is tried and tested by people we immensely respect. We wouldn’t be doing it otherwise.
