A more succinct thought: despite living in a world where everything is curated for you by you, personal gratification is not enough to deliberately be uncomfortable. There has to be a purpose or reason to put in that effort that extends outside of self fulfillment, and most don’t care to seek it

I think what it boils down to the fact that these things take effort. Effort is uncomfortable when you don’t know if you’ll get a reward at the end of it. People don’t care for the quietness that comes with personal accomplishment, there’s a drive for social validation, immediate and constant.

Spock and the doctor were always arguing. They loved each other, thiugh. When they would sort of shoot fire, and Kirk would sit there in the middle bemused—that was classic! One of the motet endearing things about the original series, is that rapport the two characters had.
