Contrary to a lot of common thought, there are not a ton of great uses for hydrogen in the industrial sector. In just about every instance, direct electrification is a better fit. This is expecially true in California, which does not have primary steel or fertilizer manufacturing.

I wrote about California gas prices spiking during the Hormuz crisis, & the huge amount of disinformation about why. Turns out refineries have a cartel, they've raised their profit margins $1/gal in two months, & they charge branded stations higher prices, which gets passed on to drivers.

I really think people don’t appreciate how much gas-fired generation is at risk from pure economics in the next few years. Probably a third to a half of the world’s LNG trade is feeding power stations which are already, or on the brink of, being permanently undercut by solar+batteries.

Trump's price spikes may well endure into next heating season, causing real pain for home heating. Helping households get off oil/propane heat *this spring/summer*, before heat demand picks up again in fall, should be a high priority. Big benefits for affordability, air quality/health, and climate.

US elites decided, like a school of fish, that climate concern is old, boring, "woke," square, not hip & popular any more. As usual, it was based almost entirely on internal elite dynamics. It had nothing to do with the actual public, which is more concerned than ever.

We're not that far apart in the US. Ioniq 5 starting MSRP = 35K Toyota Rav 4 = 31.9K Gap = 3.1K, which at $4 a gallon and 50% fuel savings will put you at parity at 62,000 miles (about 5 years of typical US driving). I find my oil change savings pretty much balance with the increased license fee

Why do they like biofuels? Because it keeps the "we must burn things" crew in business. It's great for refineries which are owned by the oil industry. They love their tax subsidized biofuels for burning. In the era of EVs, it's one more way to keep the US in the past.

Heat pumps are the most efficient heating technology ever invented. They harvest and compress pre existing heat in the air, ground or water and transport it where it is needed. That energy is all around us. And it does not have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Hands off the CLCPA. Instead of rolling back our landmark climate law, it must actually be implemented the way it was intended. Weaning ourselves off of fossil fuels (and doing so quickly!) not only protects our planet, but it’ll lower utility bills for New Yorkers. A win-win.
